In more than one way, 2026 has been a standout year for UNC’s Department of American Sign Language and Interpreting Studies (ASLIS).

Not only did the summer mark the 10-year anniversary of the ASL-English Interpretation (ASLEI) degree, the program also welcomed its largest student cohort in UNC history this year, reflecting the growing demand for trained ASL interpreters and UNC’s dedication to fulfilling those needs.

Greeley Central High School students will perform in the Celebremos concert this Friday, Sept. 25, at 7:30 p.m., in the Campus Commons Performance Hall!

Students are part of Greeley Central's newly established Latinx Music Club. UNC’s Latinx Music program, the first of its kind in the country, helped establish the club in fall of 2025. The high school already had a strong music program, but its students did not have an opportunity to study Latin American music until now.

The club provides students with an opportunity to explore music connected to their cultural backgrounds while also introducing students from other backgrounds to musical traditions they may not have encountered before.

The partnership also creates a “pipeline” between secondary and higher education. Greeley Central students are introduced to Latin American music in high school while building connections with UNC — connections that can help them begin to see that the university is a place for them.

It's time! 🔔

Bear Bash is today, the festivities start at 4 p.m. behind Frasier Hall. We're celebrating the 16th Street Enhancement Project and our very own University Program Council (UPC) helping to plan the event.

As with all collaborations between UPC and Downtown Greeley, one major goal of Bear Bash is to strengthen the ties between UNC students and downtown businesses.

UNC’s University Program Council is bridging campus and community, giving students a voice in city planning while hosting the inaugural Bear Bash on Sept. 18.
