This year, Banned Books Week goes on from October 4 to October 10, 2026.

From the words of the American Library Association, "Banned Books Week is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read. Highlighting the value of free and open access to information, Banned Books Week brings together the entire book community –- librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers, and readers of all types –- in shared support of the freedom to seek, to publish, to read, and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular."

Check out our displays of both books and DVDs at Michener Library relating to Banned Books Week. Together, we can create the freedom to read, or watch things we read!

Image Descriptions:
Image 1: A bright pink graphic about Banned Books Week. The heading of this graphic reads, "Banned Books Week, Oct. 4-10, 2026." Below the heading are doodles of two people reading books. One person is blue and laying on their stomach whilst reading. The next person is pink and sitting upright, holding an open book close to them whilst happily reading. Surrounding the people are various doodles of stars and light bulbs in white. Below the doodles is a tagline that reads, "Protect the freedom to read. Let books be!"

Image 2: A bright blue graphic about Banned Books Week. The heading of this graphic also reads, "Banned Books Week, Oct. 4-10, 2026." Below the heading is a doodle of a person who's purple watching a TV that's in a doodle style as well. A doodle of a light bulb is above the person watching TV. Various doodles of lightning surrounds the TV. Below the doodle is a tagline that reads, "Protect the freedom to watch what we read. Let movies be!"

The news is true! Stefano, our beloved anatomical model, has officially retired. He's taking a quick spa day before he joins Phyllis in Fiji.

But have no fear! Sam, our new skeleton, is already here and eager to help students ace their anatomy tests! We also have a disarticulated skeleton on the way. (Sam very gently requested that they not be taken apart for study, and how could we say no?) We'll have more information about our new skeletons later this month!

In the meantime, drop by the Information & Services Desk at Michener to check Sam out, or any one of our dozens of models.

Has any library in your life ever sparked magic in you personally? Are you wondering what that new bulletin board by the first floor restroom is at Michener Library? Well, we're introducing... Library Stories!

We want to hear from adults personally how libraries have impacted you. With our Library Stories bulletin board, we welcome any library experience-- it doesn't solely have to be one of our libraries on campus. You can be as public or as anonymous as you'd like. Participants can either handwrite their own story and place it on the bulletin board on the 1st floor of Michener Library, or you can send in a digital submission by scanning the QR code or by going to our Linktree. Participants must be 18 years or older to participate.

Stop by Michener Library or submit your library story online today! We hope to hear from you. ✨
