We are a college of artists, musicians, actors, designers, dancers and scholars. We love turning passion into professional skills for meaningful careers.

And our season of arts events shares multiple kinds of art with our community every year! UNC College of Performing and Visual Arts is the home of the School of Art, the School of Music and the School of Theatre and Dance. We are an energetic arts community. Our faculty, staff, and students collaborate and advance the practice of the arts in a dynamic and highly supportive environment. The College is devoted to helping students prepare for careers in the arts and has the facilities and advanced technology, the faculty and staff, and the experience to provide serious students with an engaging education in Music, Visual Arts, Theatre and Dance.

Two UNC School of Theatre Arts & Dance alumni recently performed in productions at the Utah Shakespeare Festival! Ilana DeAngelo '20 and Henry Hawes '24 were both in productions of Something Rotten! and She Loves Me. UNC musical theatre professor Ryan Driscoll was there to cheer them on. 👏

Our School of Theatre Arts and Dance alumni are amazing teachers! Sammie Harroun-Smith and Julie Estrada, ’01, were recently recognized by Colorado Thespians as educators of the year.

Sammie teaches at the Montclair School of Academics and Enrichment and was named Elementary School Educator of the Year.

Julie teaches at Windsor High School and is the High School Educator of the Year.

Congrats to both! 🥳

FACULTY SPOTLIGHT: Art and Design Faculty 🌟

Lauren Lipinski Eisen has recently had her oil painting, “Nesting,” juried into an exhibition at The Curtis Center for the Arts in Greenwood Village, Colorado, and her graphite pencil drawing, “Narcissi,” juried into an exhibition at Wright State University Stein Galleries in Dayton, Ohio.

Abi Paytoe Gbayee is the Keynote for the Montana Art Education Association conference this fall.

Bri Murphy and Belle-Pilar Fleming had their exhibition Sadware shown at the Stenton in Philadelphia as a part of the Radical Americana exhibition this summer. Professor Murphy also won a residency at the Red Lodge Clay Center in Montana this summer.

Samuel D**g Saul and two School of Art and Design alumni were featured in the WeldWalls Mural Festival and have their work on permanent display on 16th Street in Greeley.

Michael Lemke is being featured in an article in a national ceramics magazine, Ceramics Monthly, written by the Director of Chemistry Laboratories at the University of Richmond, Dr. Ryan Coppage.

These are just a few examples of what our amazing faculty are doing professionally. Way to go, all! 👏

FACULTY SPOTLIGHT: Music & Theatre Faculty 🌟

Voice faculty Armando Contreras is making his LA Opera debut in May 2027 singing the title role in Paola Prestini's The Old Man and the Sea. He also contributed to an article in Opera America Magazine recently that explores the roots of opera in America.

Music composition faculty Ludek Drizhal is one of five nominees for the Public Choice award in the World Soundtrack Awards for his film score for Starbright.

Lighting design and technology faculty Brian Hapcic won a 2026 Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Training from the University Resident Theatre Association (URTA).

Acting faculty Ken Womble won the Best Short Film at the Myrtle Beach International Film Festival for his short film 'Til Harvest Comes, which was a collaborative project with several other UNC School of Theatre Arts & Dance faculty and alumni.

Did you know about UNC's Latin Beat Ensemble? Or that you can study Latinx Music at UNC? Come learn all about it next Friday, September 25, at 7:30 p.m. in Campus Commons Performance Hall!

At Celebremos: Three Years of Latinx Music at UNC, you'll hear the amazing UNC Latin Beat Ensemble, awesome UNC faculty and guest artists, and local student music groups Salida Del Sol Academy Mariachi and the Greeley Central High School Latinx Music Club.

It will be a musical journey through Latin America—from mariachi and Cuban rhythms to Brazilian bossa nova, cumbia, and Latin American art song—with a vibrant batucada procession moving through the audience.
