Here's a student’s review of Sigma Tau Delta’s Professor-Student Social!
By Josh Janus
Event: Professor Social
Date & Time: November 11 at 5–7 p.m.
Location: Lawton Gallery, University of Wisconsin–Green Bay
Host: UW–Green Bay staff and Lawton Gallery
The Lawton Gallery came alive on a seemingly random Tuesday evening for The Professor Social hosted by the English department and Sigma Tau Delta, a student led group on campus. It’s a gathering designed to bring students and their professors together in a relaxed environment.
The social was hosted in the Lawton gallery, that exhibits many abstract sculptures and paintings that two friends have made over the years. The gallery’s title is “Can You Keep a Secret?” It was made to show how two people can be different and still mesh. In the gallery it talks about how friendship is largely trust of keeping secrets and acceptance. The gallery was a perfect place to host this social event.
My time at this event showed how much the professors care for not only the class they teach, but the atmosphere of the campus. There were people talking with professors seemingly as friends, not like talking to a teacher. There was such a lively atmosphere that could be heard down the hall as you approached the event. There were students that it was their first year on campus, while there were students where they were about to graduate after 4 years of hard work. People of all ages and levels came to this event to enjoy the company of others in the English department.
One thing that may have drawn some people in the door is the smell of the food that was brought in for everyone to enjoy. There was free food for anyone who attended, and it was honestly really good. The event has been called a crowd favorite for a few years and from its presence, I can see why.
