Hello! My name is Carli Reinecke () and I will be the host for the week! Hopefully I am a familiar face to some, as I am the OER Librarian on campus and I also do library instruction. In my free time, I enjoy traveling with my husband, hanging out with my nieces and nephews, and yapping.

This week is Open Education Week! Open educational resources, or OER, are free and copyright friendly materials that can be used as an alternative to costly textbooks. I help instructors switch to OER and so far we have saved students over $500,000! I’ll be taking you along with me to showcase some of the work we’ve been doing, as well as a glimpse into the life of a young professional at UWGB.

Hi everyone! My name is Shelby, and I’m your host for this week! I’m a senior majoring in Business Administration with an emphasis in Entrepreneurship.

A little about me: I served two years in the Army and hold degrees in Event Management and Customer Service. On campus, I work as the Student Engagement Assistant for the Cofrin School of Business and as a Marketing and Fan Engagement Intern with the UWGB Athletics Department. Outside of UWGB, I serve and bartend at Anduzzi’s Sports Club.

In my free time, I love baking, spending time with my dog Finn, and reading. I’m currently working toward my goal of owning 1,000 books—only 220 to go!

This week, I’ll take you along as I attend the Cofrin School of Business’s Annual Keynote, work some UWGB basketball games, and share the rest of my daily activities. I’m excited to have you join me!

Being Involved on and around campus!
I have found myself to be very lucky in finding people who are so nice and amazing to be around! Joining student orgs has been one of the biggest and best things I have done around campus whether that is being apart of FSL Concil, being apart of my sorority (TEA) or even Ballroom Dance Club which I did last year and loved! There is so many things that can fit anyone’s interests! I also tend to find myself being an avid user of the plash tix that are offered here! (I have been to almost every one of the broadway shows brought here and more!) The thing I do the most though is (willingly) drag my friends to some of the on campus events such as trivia, GB nights, bingo, “The Bubbles” that were here last semester, and more! As someone who came to GB from out of state being able to be so involved has helped make GB feel like a home to me and has made it feel like a place that I can belong!

Hello everybody!! I’m August and I’m this week’s lifeatuwgb host! I am a second year student majoring in Elementary Education here at UWGB.

I am involved in many things on campus such as Theta Eta Alpha (the gender-inclusive sorority here on campus), I also work as a BST (Building Services Team (member)) for the University Union and hopefully a couple more orgs after going to orgsmorg this last week! I also love hanging around my friends and family, exploring and I love going to all kinds of events held here on campus!

This week I’ll showcase just some of the parts of Spring Recruitment for FSL (fraternity and sorority life) here on campus and just overall what my week tends to looks like! I can’t wait for y’all to follow along!

There are so many fun things to do both on and off campus!

I was able to go to a Bucks and Brewers game, participate in goat yoga, see some really cool artwork, make meals with my friends, and get to see beautiful sunsets on the bay all through UWGB! Off campus, I love going to the farmers market, the New Zoo, pumpkin patches, downtown cafe crawls, and sightseeing along the lake! Safe to say, I’m never bored!

It has been so great hosting this week, and thank you for following along!

Throughout this week I’ve shown you what I do on a day-to-day, but I wanted to dive a little deeper about my top three student employments & org.

First is The Ambassador team is one of the best teams I have ever been a part of. As an Ambassador, I give tours or campus, work GB Orientations, GB Welcome, and many other events on campus. Through this position I’ve gotten to meet and work with such amazing people!

Second is SAM is a student org that helps students build professional skills. This org has helped me be more confident in networking and has led to wonderful relationships!

Third is I started working at grad studies in October, and it has been incredible! The grad team is amazing, and I receive so much support from them!

Being a student employee or in a student org is not always about what you are doing, although that is important, but it’s about the people who you’re meeting and building relationships with. I would not love UWGB as much as I do without the people here! That’s why it’s so important to be involved in some way on campus!

My expectations for grad school…

I came into grad school very excited to learn with very high expectations for myself. I graduated with my bachelors a year early from bringing in credits from high school, taking 18 credit semesters, and a few summer classes. This was a very big accomplishment, especially since I also was awarded the Chancellors Medallion at graduation. Since I had achieved so much in my bachelors, I was determined to continue that in grad school. Little did I know that these are two different worlds.

Grad school is filled with ups and downs, so having high expectations for yourself that aren’t very realistic, can have negative consequences. These expectations set me back for a little because I needed to adjust my expectations and make them realistic for myself.

It’s important to be patient with yourself and allow room for error and failure. It’s the best part about learning. If you aren’t failing at times, are you really learning?
