Weekly Wrap-Up!

Here are a few more cool things that happened at PLCC this week!

🚧 Building Trades: Our senior students got some hands-on practice with heavy equipment, backfilling and grading the area around our new parking spaces.

🚒 Fire Academy: Our junior students were put to the test! Instructor Toth rang the fire bell, and they had just 2 minutes to get into their full gear.

🦷 Dental Assisting: Our senior students were busy practicing sterilization techniques and learning how to make molds of teeth.

Lending a Finger! ☝️

Our senior Pre-Nursing students are getting hands-on as they begin practicing dermal punctures (aka finger pokes!) in preparation for the phlebotomy test.

Each student needs 10 successful punctures to qualify. With 15 seniors, that adds up to... 150 finger pokes! 😮

Thanks to all of the friends & staff willing to lend a finger!

Hands-on experiences like these help our students build the confidence and skills they need for their future in healthcare. ❤️

Yesterday, PLCC kicked off our annual Unity Day anti-bullying campaign!

Students and staff proudly wore their blue Unity Day shirts to show that we stand united against bullying and believe everyone deserves to feel respected, valued, and included.

We'll continue recognizing Unity Day on the first Wednesday of each month as a reminder that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference.

And the message doesn't stop at PLCC! 💙 Anyone can join us in spreading Unity. Our Unity Day T-shirts, crewnecks, and hoodies are available through Game Day Sports in Green.

At approximately 12:55pm Portage Lakes Career Center, in cooperation with the Summit County Sheriff's Department, issued an Administrative Control Precaution due to an incident occurring off campus that may pose a potential risk to our school community.

Out of abundance of caution students and staff followed established safety procedures. At this time all students and staff have returned to normal activity.

We appreciate the support of the Summit County Law Enforcement and the quick response of our students and staff.

Our Junior Pre-Nursing students are already learning about hip, knee & shoulder range of motion on patients!
