Time for another ! This month’s alumnae is 2017 graduate, Manon Carter-Kryspin!
Manon’s favorite Kappa tradition was: “My favorite part of being in Kappa was the sense of community. I loved praises, hanging out in the 2FL/3FL, and knowing there were 60+ closets available whenever you needed the perfect outfit. Bid Day was always one of my favorite days because I loved getting dressed up and welcoming new members into the chapter.”
A life lesson Kappa taught Manon was: “Kappa taught me that it’s more than okay to be yourself. Actually, it’s much cooler to be authentically you. Being surrounded by women with different personalities, talents, and perspectives showed me that there’s not a single definition of what it means to belong. That confidence in being myself is something I’ve carried with me ever since.”
How Manon has carried Kappa’s ideals into adulthood: “Kappa helped me realize that my voice has value and that I have the ability to make a difference in the lives of others. Service and philanthropy continue to be central to who I am, and I strive to lead my life in service to my community every day. Looking back, I’d even like to think that our former philanthropy, Reading Is Fundamental, helped inspire the path that led me to become an ELA teacher.”
What Manon does now: “I’m a middle school ELA teacher at an all-girls STEM school in Indianapolis, and I love what I do. It’s been so rewarding to be part of a school that is mission-driven in creating opportunities and positive STEM outcomes for young women. One of my favorite parts of the job is helping students find their voice through reading and writing while encouraging them to see themselves as future leaders.”
