Nicole Pence Becker ’06 is the owner and operator of Pence Media Group and a four-time Emmy Award-winning television anchor and reporter. Throughout her career, she has built a reputation as a trusted storyteller, helping communities stay informed while elevating the voices and stories that matter most.

As she looks back on her DePauw experience, Nicole recognizes the people and opportunities that helped shape her journey. Today, she encourages fellow alumni to invest in the next generation of Tigers—whether through mentorship, engagement or support—so future students can discover the same possibilities that DePauw opened for her.

Every DePauw Tiger has a story worth telling.

Gold & Told is a new Alumni Reunion Weekend series that captures the memories, wisdom, and experiences of alumni returning to campus. From career advice to favorite traditions and reflections on their time at DePauw, these stories help preserve the legacy of our alumni while inspiring future generations of Tigers.

Our first story features Steve Setchell '96.

It was a special Reunion Weekend welcome for Steve, who returned to campus to reconnect with the DePauw community and share his advice for current students. As the former Vice President for Development and Alumni Engagement, and someone who held several roles across the University throughout his career, Steve's impact on DePauw extends far beyond his time as a student. Faculty, staff, and fellow alumni alike were excited to see him back on campus.

Stay tuned as we continue sharing stories from Reunion Weekend and celebrating the voices that make DePauw's legacy so strong.

DePauw University alum Ed Nightingale ’02 is helping drive the future of mobility as he leads software development efforts at General Motors. With experience at Microsoft and Apple, Ed brings deep expertise in innovation and engineering to support the next generation of GM vehicles.

Based in Seattle, he is also playing a key role in growing GM’s engineering presence—shaping the systems and technology behind what’s next.

The conversations picked up right where they left off. The stories got a little better with each retelling. And for one weekend, generations of Tigers came together to celebrate the friendships, memories and traditions that make DePauw feel like home.
