Community Engagement is about bringing people and organizations together to make a positive, significant, and lasting difference in the world in which we live. We collaborate with many through our scholarship, our teaching, research, creative activities, and service. We engage because we know that great accomplishments, big and small, short-term and long-term, are made possible when we bring toget

Together, we collectively imagine what it means to be stewards of our communities and to act as innovators who are redefining the public research university for the 21st century as an inclusive, collaborative, and responsive institution making a difference in the lives of students and the communities it serves. Check out Collaboratory's latest piece on UNC Greensboro and the SDGs linked below. We are excited to share that UNCG is the 2nd in the country to align the Sustainability Goals with the community-engaged work in Collaboratory. Inclusion of the SDGs in the UNCG Collaboratory is one of the Institute's commitments to the university mission to redefine the public research university for the 21st century as an inclusive, collaborative, and responsive institution making a difference in the lives of students and the communities it serves.

We are still beaming from the Division of Research and Engagement Community-engaged Research Awards Celebration last month! Get ready, we are beginning our roll-call with the Community-Engaged Scholarship Partnership of Distinction Award presented to the Montagnard/Asian Community Disparities Research Network in partnership with the Montagnard Association of North Carolina.

The Montaganard/Asian Community Disparities Research Network (MACDRN) was founded in 2012 by concerned community activists and academics to address serious gaps in evidence-based facts and practices underlying the health and services provided to refugee communities. The Montagnard Assocation of North Carolina is notable for teaching, sharing, and supporting other refugee communities through its empowerment of them through the community health worker model and joint research with the Research Network. Special recognition goes to the ongoing scholarly leadership of senior faculty members, Dr. Sharon Morrison and Dr. Sudha Shreeniwas, and junior faculty Dr. Ana Sucaldito for their longstanding efforts on behalf of UNCG, their departments and their disciplines to advance UNCG’s strategic goal to enhance research excellence and creative activity to support discovery and societal impact.

Our Mapping the Landscape of Community Engagement and AI gathering during earlier this month challenged us to think about solutions for continuing to move forward while staying connected to each other and ourselves. This included spending some time engaging questions about AI through collage-making. Special thanks to Maggie Murphy, Art and Design Librarian, and Kelley O'Brien, Professor of New Media and Design, for sharing their current research and leading us in this creative practice. What a delight to see the collaboration coming to life as students worked to create films. This partnership consists of faculty and students in the UNCG Department of Media Studies and students and staff at Morehead Elementary School.

We had nearly 100 attendees, powerful conversations, and so much knowledge exchanged across multiple sectors! We're excited about the innovation that will come from such a timely gathering.
