Emily is currently a graphic designer intern for the St. Louis Blues, Enterprise Center, and Stifel Theatre along with some freelance!
-
“There’s a constant push for peer critiques/feedback in the DM program. The group critiques along with professor feedback we’re great for challenging me, which overall made me a better designer and played a big part in how I got to where I am today.”
-
“I’ve learned that speaking about our thought processes, why we chose to do things a certain way, and how we got to the final product is an important skill especially freelancing. Communication is so important with clients and how you sell yourself and your services.”
-
“One piece of advice I would give is internships. I regret not doing more, but internships give the experience that simply can’t be taught in the classroom! Internships can be great for figuring out the difference of a personal hobby interests and career interests.”

“I mostly do graphic design for them, along with some social media. I use a lot of Photoshop and Illustrator to create things based on what they want.”
-
“I wanted to take advantage of the opportunity for an internship and grow in my work experience! I like working for them because it connects with real-world experience. -
“Another cool thing is that I can apply everything that I’ve learned from my classes to my job!”

“I used roughly 1,300 Q-tips to create my project.”
-
“I knew I wanted to do a ghostly human shape, so I used an AI generator for inspiration, and it gave me a nice ghost bride to use as a reference.”
-
“The hardest part was finding enough time to do it, 36 hours to be exact, but once I had a system and structure, the work itself was pretty nice.”

Ian’s Experience @ Mock-R-View📸⚡️
-
Ian is a DM major and got to experience helping out at the Mock-R-View event!
-
“The set up was nice, and getting to know others were fun! We had to create a photo space with backdrops and lights.”
-
“My job was to photoshop the images. I had to make sure they were color corrected, and the lighting was good.”
-
“I would work this event again because I enjoyed the digital media work as a whole. You could relate it to a real world experience.”

“I helped out at the Mock-R-View event. I was helping out Gaston by setting up and taking down!”
-
“I like DM because there are no strict rules, so that I can be as creative as possible!”
-
“Morgan and Isaac make DM realistic as possible. If we were to follow a curriculum, it would limit our creativity.”
-
“The DM group is very diverse, and we are all unique in our ways, making it fun!”

Student Spotlight: Ian Green📸⚡️🏀
-
Ian’s a sophomore DM major with a minor in Journalism!
-
“DM is an easy creative outlet! I like that you don’t have to follow specific rules when you create something. It must be good enough for you, not everyone else.”
-
“Journalism is something I picked because I want to step into this world and give someone a perspective they can relate to. I want to be that voice to give inspiration to someone.”
-
“Photography lets me capture the emotional moments. It allows me to go anywhere in high-intensity environments and capture any big moment, whether for me or others.”
