Are you passionate about driving the green energy transition? Do you want to help shape the future of renewable energy systems? The Renewable Plants in Energy Systems (RES) section at DTU Wind and Energy Systems invites applications for a PhD position in "Enhancing Renewable Power Plants' Performance through Advanced Control Methods".
About the Position
This PhD project will focus on developing advanced control methods to enhance the performance of renewable power plants (RPPs) in complex and uncertain future power systems. The research will address the challenges posed by multiple uncertainties, such as weather, market, and grid conditions, and develop robust control strategies to ensure system stability and security in 100% renewable energy scenarios.
Why Join Us?
Be at the Forefront of Renewable Energy Research: Work in a multidisciplinary environment with access to world-class research infrastructure, including a MW-scale hybrid power plant on campus.
Collaborate with Leading Experts: Partner with researchers from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and other top European institutions in the field.
Enjoy a Creative and Inspiring Work Environment: DTU is known for academic excellence, freedom, and a supportive atmosphere that encourages innovation.
Your Responsibilities
Develop a detailed project plan in collaboration with your supervisors.
Identify and examine the limitations of traditional control methods for RPPs.
Model uncertain power systems and assess advanced control methods for enhanced performance.
Conduct external research stays at TUM (6-9 months), collaborating closely with experts in the field.
Qualifications
A Master’s degree (120 ECTS points) in engineering, natural sciences, or a similar field.
Strong foundation in control engineering, power systems, and robust/optimal control.
Experience with mathematical modeling and technical tools such as Python, MATLAB, and Simulink.
Excellent academic record, strong communication skills, and fluency in English.
What We Offer
A rewarding and challenging role in a leading technical university recognized globally.
Opportunities for national and international networking, collaboration, and career development.
