Contemporary Writers Series at ECU

Contemporary Writers Series at ECU What we do: Reveal literature as a living art, celebrate exceptional contemporary literature, promote cultural understanding, and inspire minds. of English.

The new Contemporary Writers Series (CWS) seeks to broaden both the outlook and the outreach of East Carolina University by bringing international literary stars to ECU. The CWS will bring to the ECU campus new and established writers, men and women of various cultural backgrounds whose work has made an unusually powerful contribution to literature and to the lives of readers. This lively reading

series exposes students and other readers to a wide array of award-winning fiction and nonfiction writers, translators, and poets. Writers spend three or four days on campus, meet with graduate and undergraduate classes, and give formal readings and presentations. Graduate students will help coordinate writers’ visits and host them on campus. Free to the university community and the public, the CWS serves as a powerful recruitment tool for both undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in creative writing and contemporary literature. CWS is sponsored by the ECU Office of Graduate Research and the Dept.
