The rise in anti-Asian violence across the country since the pandemic began was horribly illustrated last week when six women of Asian descent and two other people were murdered in Atlanta. This incident has raised awareness of the racism and racial injustice this community has felt for years. The university released an official statement in support of and in solidarity with the Asian American and Pacific Islander community earlier this week. In that same spirit, the Office of Global Affairs is committed to building an inclusive, supportive, and globally aware community here at ECU.
Regardless of your nation of origin, you may feel confused, frustrated or even outraged by current events. You may feel alone, afraid and vulnerable. This Friday, March 26th at 3:00 PM, we will hold a special International Coffee Hour to discuss the situation and provide a safe, casual space to express your thoughts and feelings on this matter and racism in America more broadly. We will also introduce you to some resources on campus that may be able to help you navigate this challenging time. We hope this forum will provide an avenue for you to speak and be heard and feel supported by your fellow Pirates.
All are welcome to attend.
