Black Dove Society

Black Dove Society A home for Christians who refuse silence in the face of injustice. We follow the Jesus of Scripture, the one who is compassionate, merciful, and just.

We gather to encourage one another, share burdens, and act faithfully to make our communities more just. We are a community created to encourage one another and to empower the body of Christ to act faithfully in establishing justice in our land. When we see pain, danger, and wrong, we refuse silence and inaction. We are a people who step into those places as bearers of the Kingdom of God and work

to establish God’s shalom. We share one another’s burdens with compassion and care. We commit to being agents of progress who view the establishment of unjust policies as unacceptable. Our desire is to shape our community, our city, and the world beyond into a more just and good reality through words and actions, protests and creative endeavors. Even if our efforts seem small, we answer God’s call to resist avoidance and to refuse a status quo sustained by coercion, oppression, and violence.

Esther could have said no. She could have resisted danger, enjoyed comfort, brushed off responsibility, & been forgotten as just another who chose to do nothing.

Instead she partnered with God, changed history, saved an entire people from destruction and brought justice to her home.

So can you.

What power do you have? Could God intend for you to use your power like Esther, to save others from oppression, poverty, or destruction?

Dear Reader,

Excuse me, but do you have an extra voice? I've been using mine but it appears not to be working. If you're not using yours, perhaps I could purchase it from you. How much is it worth to you?

Words from Al Shabiba Risala:

War leaves more than physical destruction—it leaves wounds in hearts, especially among the next generation. In Lebanon, many young people are growing up surrounded by instability, fear, and uncertainty about their future.

We cannot change the past, but we can build what comes next.

We have already stepped out in faith and moved into a building—a space dedicated to restoring hope and equipping lives. A place where youth are discipled, where peace is taught and lived, and where community, creativity, and support come together to bring healing and purpose.

But now we face an urgent need.

We must cover the mortgage payment by May to keep this space open and continue the work. This is not just about a building—it’s about protecting a place where lives are being transformed every day.

This center is a response to the brokenness around us. It is a commitment to stand, to serve, and to invest in a generation that will shape the future of Lebanon.

If you feel led to stand with us in this critical moment, you can give here:

We love people. Big people and little people. We give extra effort to loving the vulnerable and oppressed, which in our society often includes immigrants, the poor, children, and the elderly.

In efforts to love the unborn, the church has often championed use of law and punishment (most recently including the death penalty), thinking this to be the best route to reduce abortion. We believe this is deeply flawed, amplifying the issue when ex*****on is on the table and failing to meet the ethic of love by which all our actions should flow.

We encourage our Christian brothers and sisters to consider a different approach - reducing the need (both perceived and real) for abortion by advocating for policies and programs which increase education and reduce the burden on mothers.

In South Carolina, this means abandoning the standard of supporting the candidate intent on outlawing abortion. This means asking what the candidate supports to assist pregnant/new mothers and to reduce unintended pregnancies. These are the tangible actions that holistically support the entire family, our entire society, rather than merely increasing fines and death row.

In South Carolina, this means finally voting Lindsey Graham out of office, along with those like him who refuse to address this deeply meaningful need across our state and country.

I've been thinking about how to articulate exactly what black dove Society seeks to be. As I've continued researching, I'm confident that we fit the criteria of a Christian sect. Like the Catholic Workers movement within the Catholic church, we seek to be a home for those of like-minded conviction to gather and work as one. We transcend denomination, and welcome all who affirm the core Christian tenants.

In this video, Cameron discusses a quote from Troeltsch on the defining characteristics of a sect. While our Christianity is rooted in Grace, the nature of a sect requires the adherents to submit to the identity and mission of the sect (thus, becoming a law to itself). Practically this means that we do not accept those who applaud authoritarianism, turn a blind eye to the Injustice of government, or attack the rights of our sisters and brothers with less power. As Christians, we are deeply and unwaveringly committed to an ethic of love and justice.

If you want to know more, we'd love for you to reach out.
