Jeremiah 1: 4-5
God told Jeremiah that He formed him, knew him, sanctified him, and lastly, he ordained him. The Hebrew word for “ordain” is nathan, which means to “set, appoint, assign, or designate.” What God was telling Jeremiah was, “I have set you, appointed you, assigned you, and designated you to be a prophet to the nations.” In other words, Jeremiah life was already predetermined by God.
Notice Jeremiah’s specific assignment: to be a Prophet. According to the Hebrew Lexicon,
the word “prophet” is nabiy’ which means: a spokesman who spoke by divine inspiration. God’s desire was for Jeremiah
to speak on His behalf to the nation Israel. From the beginning, God decided Jeremiah’s purpose in life. Now, it was up to Jeremiah to receive God’s plan and to walk out his divine purpose.
