Happy National Telecommunicators Week to our incredible dispatchers here at Lander University Police as well as ALL Dispatchers!

Thank you for being the calm in the chaos, the steady voice in moments of fear, and the critical first link in every response. Your professionalism, compassion, and quick thinking makes a great impact, often without recognition or rest.

Whether you’re managing multiple calls, supporting responders in the field, or guiding someone through the worst moment of their life, your work matters more than words can express. You are the unseen frontline, and our operations simply could not function without your dedication and resilience.

This week, and every week, we appreciate you. Thank you for the sacrifices you make, the care you give our community, and the pride you take in serving others.

We are grateful for each and every one of you.

Lander University is cancelling classes starting at 12 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 2026. Students are strongly encouraged to return home, as campus services could be limited. Weather conditions are expected to worsen beginning Saturday afternoon and into the evening. As ice begins to accumulate, road conditions may deteriorate, which could impact available services, including emergency response. There is also a potential risk of power outages.

Please stay aware of the changing weather and continue monitoring your Lander University email and official social media channels for updates.

Stay safe, Bearcats!

What an amazing opportunity to give back to the community. Thank you to the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Department for the opportunity to give back and to be a part of an incredible event!

We had an unforgettable time this morning at our annual Shop with a Cop event, where we were able to help 10 amazing families in our community who were sponsored for the holidays. It was truly a special day, made possible by the generous support of local businesses and community partners.

A big thank you to the following agencies who came together to make this event a success:

South Carolina Department of Public Safety State Transport Police
South Carolina Highway Patrol
Ware Shoals Police Department
Ninety Six Police Department
Lander University Police Department
South Carolina Department of Natural Resources
Greenwood Police Department

We also want to extend our deepest gratitude to Walmart (Bypass 72 NW) for allowing us to host this wonderful event at their store. This event is made possible by Walmart and private donors and without your support this wouldn't be possible.

It’s moments like these that remind us of the power of coming together and the true spirit of the season. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from all of us at the Greenwood County Sheriff's Office! 🎁🎉

Thank you to all of our silent guardians who put the badge on every day to ensure the safety of all. Together, let us honor their commitment and keep in mind those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

And a special thanks and shout out to our officers here at Lander University for all of your loyalty and dedication to our beautiful campus!

Our hearts are saddened by this tragic event! We send our heart felt condolences to the family and friends of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. And we pray for the full recovery of those officers that were injured. The bravery displayed by these officers elucidates the risks law enforcement officers face and their sacrifice will never be forgotten. 💔💙🖤💙🖤💙🖤

“Today is a heavy day. The last 24 hours have truly been heartbreaking for all. We are continuing to support and lean on our law enforcement community as we navigate yesterday’s tragic attack on officers. My prayers go out to the family and friends of CMPD Officer Joshua Eyer and the families of the three other officers killed yesterday afternoon. Officer Eyer, North Carolina Department of Corrections Officers Samuel Poloche and William Elliott and U.S. Marshals Deputy Thomas Weeks made the ultimate sacrifice. Their lives and service will never be forgotten.”

- CMPD Chief Johnny Jennings

April 24, 2024, was National Denim Day. Due to exams falling on April 24th, we recognized this day a little early on April 17, 2024. Our officers went out and assisted with this Campus event and educated students about self-defense.

Denim Day was founded 30 years ago after a young woman in Italy was blamed for her own sexual assault due to the tight jeans in which she was wearing at the time. People around the world wear denim every year on Denim Day to support survivors and spread awareness about sexual assault.
