The Advocate MHCC, Mt. Hood Community College’s student-run newspaper, recently received the General Excellence Award for Oregon community colleges and 21 individual honors in the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association Collegiate Newspaper Contest! 📰

The awards recognize work published during the 2025 calendar year and include eight first-place, eight second-place and five third-place honors. 🏆

THE SAINTS GOT THE SWEEP. THE BET IS SETTLED. 🏐 💗

The Mt. Hood Saints swept Chemeketa Community College 3–0 in Friday’s Dig Pink matchup, and President Lisa Skari is officially taking home the bragging rights! That means Chemeketa President Jessica Howard will be sporting some Saints pride. 👀

A big win on the court, a little friendly competition, and a great cause bringing us together. Thanks to everyone who came out to support our Saints and Dig Pink! Go Saints!

This Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we’re celebrating the remarkable Indigenous women who have been part of the Saints family — including two members of our softball program who have held the title of Happy Canyon Princess.

🥎 Avery Quaempts, a freshman on the Saints softball team, recently completed her reign as the 2025–26 Happy Canyon Princess. A member of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, Avery comes from a family with deep ties to Happy Canyon and its long-standing traditions.

She’s also following in the footsteps of former Saints student-athlete and assistant basketball coach Marley Johnson, who held the title in 2022.

We’re proud to celebrate Avery, Marley and the many Indigenous students, athletes, leaders and community members who bring their strength, heritage and stories to our campus and communities. ❤️💛

The bet is on! This Friday, the Saints take on Chemeketa Community College in a volleyball showdown - and there’s a little extra on the line. MHCC President Lisa Skari and Chemeketa President Jessica Howard have made a friendly wager: Whoever’s team loses has to wear the winner’s jersey.

We’re feeling pretty good about our Saints, but we’ll let the scoreboard settle this one. Saints fans, get ready to cheer loud! ❤️🖤

United States Representative Congresswoman Maxine Dexter, M.D. paid a visit this week to the MHCC Head Start and Early Learning Center to see the great work we do in supporting low-income families with young children in East Multnomah County. Our center is the largest in the state, operating for over 50 years and serving nearly 1,000 families.
