For our spring Mouths of Others literary event, we are pleased to welcome indigenous Canadian author Cherie Dimaline to our (virtual) campus on Tuesday, May 3rd from 1:00 - 2:00 PM (PST).

Cherie Dimaline will read from and discuss her work (novels include The Marrow Thieves, Empire of Wild, and Hunting by Stars) as well as participate in a Q&A. Please mark your calendars and promote this event to your students, friends, and community members!

A little about The Marrow Thieves:
"Humanity has nearly destroyed its world through global warming, but now an even greater evil lurks. The indigenous people of North America are being hunted and harvested for their bone marrow, which carries the key to recovering something the rest of the population has lost: the ability to dream. In this dark world, Frenchie and his companions struggle to survive as they make their way up north to the old lands. For now, survival means staying hidden - but what they don't know is that one of them holds the secret to defeating the marrow thieves." -- Amazon Books

A little about the author:
"[Cherie Dimaline] is an author and editor from the Georgian Bay Métis community whose award-winning fiction has been published and anthologized internationally. In 2014, she was named the Emerging Artist of the Year at the Ontario Premier's Award for Excellence in the Arts and became the first Aboriginal Writer in Residence for the Toronto Public Library. Cherie Dimaline currently lives in Toronto where she coordinates the annual Indigenous Writers' Gathering." -- Goodreads

The Mouths of Others is proud to welcome Kesha Ajose Fisher.

Kesha’s first book, NO GOD LIKE THE MOTHER, recently won the Ken Kesey Award For Fiction at the 2020 Oregon Book Awards.

Kesha Ajose-Fisher is dedicated to amplifying the voices of some of the most vulnerable members of our society. She knows that many of life’s burdens fall heaviest on the shoulders of women, and she seeks to expose this reality in her writing.

Her debut collection of fictional short stories, No God Like the Mother, delves deep into the lives of women who are expected to keep the world turning, all while bearing the brunt of its hardships. No God Like The Mother is a tribute to those who have experienced the brutality of breathing through the agony of losing a child. Set around the world, the stories in No God Like the Mother offer an insight into the extraordinary everyday lives of women, and follow the characters through times of transition,
tribulation, hope and uncertainty.
