The club hopes to provide members with opportunities to gather and interface with other pre-professional students, as well as meet and shadow professionals in their field. The goal of all activities is to

provide members with information on what is needed to become a well-rounded, highly qualified graduate school applicant with opportunities and diverse experiences to increase their chances of gaining admission into post graduate professional schools. By providing informative lectures, seminars, and travel opportunities, the club encourages academic achievement, while stimulating personal and professional growth to help students become future professionals excelling in their field of interest.

The Pre-Professional Club will be collecting used mascara wands to donate to wildlife centers! The recycled mascara wands are used to help wildlife. Old mascara wands are used to remove fly eggs and larva from the fur of wild animals. They work great because the bristles are close together and can be washed for continued uses! Drop boxes are located all over campus until April 12th🦉🦝🐿🦅🦡

This weekend six members of the Pre-Professional Club attended the National American Pre-Veterinary Medical Association (APVMA) symposium hosted by Penn State’s Pre-Veterinary Club at Penn State University! The students were able to attend different labs, various lectures and network with other pre-veterinary students, veterinarians, and admissions counselors!

Some of the labs Centenary students participated in included suturing, breeding and caring for dairy cows, wildlife necropsy and blood and bacterial diagnostics. Lectures included different careers within the field, case studies, new surgeries due to advancements in the field, and panel discussions with first year veterinary students from U Penn! Students also had the chance to talk to and learn about different veterinary schools programs from over fifteen different admissions counselors from schools

This weekend was fun and educational and the Pre-Professional club is looking look forward to having Centenary attend the 2020 APVMA symposium at Virginia-Maryland next year🦃

The Club had an amazing time at the APVMA Symposium at Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in Auburn, Alabama this weekend!! Five of our members (listed below) and our advisor, Dr. James Monks attended.

Samantha Frosch - President
Maureen Agnew - Vice President of Events/Programs
Sara Taylor - Vice President of Finance
Danielle Ferriola - Vice President of Fundraising/Community Service
Jena Ungarten - Vice President of Student Government Affairs

Our day started yesterday at a southern dinner with over 700 pre-veterinary students from across the country at Auburn’s beautiful Equestrian Center. We got to paint a dog house barrel and won first place with our soup can out of all the club’s creations!! Other activities included painting tiles, taking photo booth pictures, and a corn hole tournament. There was also guest speakers from St. George’s CVM and Auburn CVM.

We woke up bright and early this morning and attended wetlabs. Danielle attended a calving lab where she got to learn how to tie chains on the legs of a fake calf in a simulation cow giving birth to manipulate the baby’s position. Sam, Maureen, Sara and Jena attended a small ruminant lab where they learned to clip goat hooves and draw blood. We also attended lectures from various veterinarians in the field such as an army vet, public health vet working for the CDC, an elephant vet, and many more. There was also various networking opportunities with admission counselors from veterinary schools who had tables such as NCSU, LMU, Ohio, Louisiana State, UF, Mississipi State, Michigan State, Mid- Western, Western, Ross, St. George, Virginia Maryland, Cornell, Kansas State, Auburn, Ontario, University of Dublin and more!!!!

We ended our night with a formal dinner, elections for the APVMA board and the scholarship awards ceremony. We also heard a guest speaker from Ross University CVM talk about his career path getting board certified in internal medicine and anesthesiology at Kansas State/Cornell University and Tony Wynne from VMCAS!

Lastly, we were awarded the APVMA Outstanding Club Community Award and our member Samantha, was awarded the APVMA Outstanding Senior Award for the 2017-2018 year.

We had a great time and encourage members to attend next year, it will be held at Texas A&M!!!
