Today, we release "Dismantling the Divide," a new podcast series about Peace.

A collaboration between the Albert Schweitzer Institute and the Quinnipiac University Podcast Studio, the series follows from the 2024 World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates, to which we brought 28 students, faculty and staff last September, in Monterrey, Mexico.

The Albert Schweitzer Institute joins the nation in mourning the loss of President Jimmy Carter, who passed away at the age of 100 on Sunday.

We were fortunate in 2007 to be able to host Carter at Quinnipiac, and to award him the Schweitzer medallion. Carter joined us to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Schweitzer’s radio addresses speaking out against the dangers presented by the development of nuclear weapons.

Schweitzer was a hero of Carter’s. Schweitzer’s example of service and his promotion of Reverence for all life found an advocate in Jimmy Carter, through his actions as President and in his long life of service following his presidency.

The Albert Schweitzer Institute extends its condolences to the Carter family, and joins the world in thoughtful commemoration of Carter’s legacy.

The Albert Schweitzer Institute is saddened to learn of the passing of (Lord) David Trimble, 1998 Nobel Peace Laureate and one of the architects of the Belfast Agreement that initiated a political resolution to the conflict in Northern Ireland. Several generations of Quinnipiac students and alumni/ae had the opportunity to interact with Trimble at the World Summits of Nobel Peace Laureates. He offered a sober, Realist alternative to the often idealistic and progressive messages conveyed in those forums, teaching that peace can be built (must be built) with eyes open to the realities of the day, and with participation across the political spectrum. Our condolences go out to Lady Trimble and the entire Trimble family; Lord Trimble’s voice and presence will be missed on the world stage.

A healthy harvest for today’s farmers market. As part of its work with the Hamden Food Security Task Force, the Albert Schweitzer Institute manages a garden to provide fresh produce to the Hamden Food Pantry.
