The mission of the Honors Program at Southeastern is to offer curricular and co-curricular opportunities that help students to know and understand the significant ideas and events that have shaped our world and will shape the future; to have confidence in their ability to think independently, write clearly, and speak effectively; and to develop the skills to be leaders in their communities and professions.

Congratulations to 2026 Senior Honors Diploma Recipient Isabelle Costner!

Isabelle is from Madisonville, Louisiana. She is a Marketing major and has been actively involved in several organizations during her college career, including the American Marketing Association (AMA), the Honors Student Association (HSA), and Project Hope. Throughout her academic journey, she has demonstrated strong dedication and discipline, with her most notable accomplishment being maintaining all A’s this semester while successfully managing a rigorous course load of eight classes. Following graduation, she plans to pursue a career in marketing, with a focus on understanding consumer behavior and digital media influence. Under the direction of Dr. Juliana White and Dr. Marcy Fluitt, she completed her senior honors thesis, “The Influence of TikTok and Social Media Persuasion Techniques on Consumptive Patterns and Practices.”

Congratulations to Spring 2026 Honors Diploma recipient Abigail Cloud!

Abigail is from Covington, Louisiana. They majored in History, with an emphasis on Tudor England. During their time at Southeastern, they were part of organizations such as Alpha Psi Omega, The Student Government Association, Knitty Gritty, College of Honors and Excellence Ambassadors, and they co-founded the Young Democratic Socialists of America chapter at Southeastern. They earned their Sophomore Honors Distinction the second semester of their sophomore year. Abigail has presented multiple papers in the Honors Research Showcase, and presented at two conferences this year: the Phi Alpha Theta Regional Conference in Lafayette, LA and the Southern Regional Honors Conference in Montgomery, Alabama. After graduation, they plan to pursue the Master of Arts in History, starting in the summer semester.

Congratulations to Spring 2026 Honors Diploma recipient Oreoluwa Tejiri Onafowokan!

TJ is from Lagos, Nigeria. She is majoring in Political Science with a minor in History. During her time at Southeastern, she has been actively involved in numerous campus organizations. She serves as President of the International Student Union and is the Founder and President of the Nigerian Student Union. She is also the Service Committee Coordinator for the Honors Student Association, a CHE Ambassador for the College of Honors and Excellence, and Student Vice-President of Phi Kappa Phi. In addition, she has served as a Service Leader for international students in Chi Alpha, a former Ambassador for the French Club, an Orientation Leader in 2023, Vice President of Up to Us Southeastern, and a Resident Assistant in University Housing. She is also a member of Pi Sigma Alpha and the Thirteen Club. Onafowokan has been recognized for her academic excellence, earning the President’s List for all seven semesters and receiving the Continuing Honors Scholarship Award and Continuing Honors Housing Scholarship Award. She has also received the LACUSPA Gold Scholarship Award, the Academic Achievement Award at the Residential Assistant Banquet, and was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi and the Thirteen Club. She has also earned her Sophomore and Senior Honors Distinctions. After graduation, she plans to pursue a career in law and possibly diplomacy. Under the direction of Bridget Hester and Michael Corbello, she completed her senior honors thesis, “Electoral Malpractice in Nigeria.”

Congratulations to Spring 2026 Honors Diploma recipient Brenna Stamper!

Brenna is from St. Amant, Louisiana. She is an Art major with a concentration in New Media and Animation. Brenna served as the Director of Financial Affairs for Southeastern Student Government, obtained Sophomore Honors Distinction, joined the Thirteen Club, and is working toward her Senior Honors Distinction. She was recognized as Chi Omega’s Freshman of the Year, selected for the Spring 2026 Student Juried Art Show, and is presenting work in the Senior Thesis Art Show. She has made the President’s List for 8 semesters, with her GPA never dropping below a 4.0. She has also presented her senior thesis research at the Louisiana Undergraduate Research Association Conference in the Louisiana State Capitol and at the ULS Academic Summit. In her free time, she interns at Fusion Implant Center, where she works as a Dental Prosthetic Lab Technician and Surgical Assistant. After graduation, she plans to work full-time at the implant center. Under the direction of John Valentino and Blair Gallon, she has completed her senior honors thesis, “An Artist’s Contribution to Neuroaesthetics.“

Congratulations to Spring 2026 Honors Diploma recipient Madison Moses!

Madison is from Harvey, Louisiana. She is majoring in Psychology with a concentration in Applied Behavior Analysis. During her time at Southeastern Louisiana University, she has been an active leader in several organizations, serving as a Justice in the Student Government Association , the President of the Southeastern Gospel Choir, and a member of the Order of Omega Greek Honor Society. Notably, she also serves as an undergraduate coordinator on the international board of directors for Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.. Madison has been recognized for her academic excellence as a four-time Dean’s List recipient and a President’s List recipient. Her significant accomplishments include completing a specialized internship as a Behavioral Line Technician at Brennan Behavioral Group, where she provided one-on-one support for children with developmental disorders, and serving as a certified tutor at the Tinsley Learning Center. Following graduation in May 2026, she plans to attend Ball State University to pursue a Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis. Under the direction of Dr. Firdavs Khaydarov and Shelby Morain, she completed her senior honors thesis, “Relationship between Response Effort and Behavioral Performance.”

Congratulations to Spring 2026 Honors Diploma recipient Toby Lirette!

Toby is a writer from Houma, Louisiana. He is an English major with a concentration in Creative writing and a minor in Spanish. Throughout his time in the undergraduate program, he has been an active member in the Southeastern Spanish Club, The Knitty Gritty, English and World Language Ambassadors, The Southeastern Study Abroad Program, and The Honors Program. He’s also spent the past three years working as a level II CRLA certified tutor at the Tinsley Learning Center under the direction of Mrs. Marie Bernard and the College of Honors and Excellence. Toby has earned the President’s Award in every semester attended at Southeastern, as well as a Senate Recognition Award in November of 2024 and Sophomore Honors Distinction. He has completed 30 hours of Honors coursework here at Southeastern. Additionally, he has presented creative work at the Honors Research Showcases of Fall 2025 and Spring 2026, The Southern Regional Honors Conference 2026, Southeastern Students’ Research, Creative, And Scholarly Activities Showcase, and the University of Louisiana Academic Summit 2026. After graduation, he plans to attend graduate school with the end goal of working in the publications industry. Under the direction of Ms. Alison Pelegrin and Mr. Brad Richard, he completed his senior honors thesis, “Confessions: Poems.”

Congratulations to Spring 2026 Honors Diploma recipient Kyle Hidalgo!

Kyle is from Sun, Louisiana and is an accomplished student leader at Southeastern, majoring in Political Science with a Minor in Economics. His leadership experience is highlighted by serving as the SLU Student Body President, where he managed a $2.4 million budget and scholarship fund, and served as the primary student advocate and liaison to university administration. He also participated in the Louisiana Governors Fellows Program with the Department of Veterans Affairs, conducting research, writing legislation, and developing policy proposals. His extensive campus and community involvement includes serving as a Parish Counselor for Louisiana Boys State, a Founding Member and executive board member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, Co-Director for the ExCEL Fellows Program, Vice President of the Honors Student Association, Vice- President of the Inter-Fraternity Council, Officer for the Southeastern Debate Team, in addition to holding various roles within the Student Government Association prior to his presidency, such as Student Supreme Court Justice and the First Senator in the history of the College of Honors and Excellence. Further professional experience includes an internship at Anderson Traylor Edwards Law Firm and work as an Admission student worker. Recognized for his achievements at Southeastern, Kyle was SLUs Freshman of the Year, Honors Program Freshman of the Year, has won a Green “S” Award, Zealon Solomon Excellence Award, and was Southeastern’s 2025 Man of The Year, being inducted into the Southeastern Student Hall of Fame. After graduation Kyle plans to continue working at Southeastern, pursuing his MBA, and eventually his PhD.
