International Club - Hampden-Sydney College

International Club - Hampden-Sydney College Fostering Relations Through Cultural Awareness! The International Club became a part of the H-SC community in the 2004-2005 academic year.

The number of international students had risen significantly during the early 2000s. The founding members had the idea that the international and other culturally interested students should be represented by a club of their own. Ever since then, the International Club has grown quite significantly and is one of the most active clubs on campus today. In recognition of this, the International Club w

as granted a house of its own in the academic year 2006-2007 and found a temporary residence in Burrell House. The International Club aims to foster relations through cultural awareness and promote understanding among various cultures at Hampden-Sydney College. We work closely with other culturally active College groups such as MSU, Spanish Club, French Club etc.. Every semester we host a series of cultural and social events in which many faculty members and students participate.

Hey guys! We are thinking about going to D.C. to see the cherry blossoms this Saturday. The weather will be awesome, so roaming D.C. will be fun. One of our alumni has some pretty good ideas for things we can do. If you would be interest in going and have ideas for the trip, please like the post or comment below.

I have gotten in contact with some of the clubs and performers (so far an Indian dance group at William and Mary and an Asian singing group from VCU) from other schools, and I will be sending them the details this week so that they can let me know whether or not they can perform at the festival. Would any of you be opposed to me assigning each of you, who is willing to help out, a school from which you would gather contact information about any international performers or organizations on those campuses? If so when you do get this information, you could just email it to me and I will email the those organizations.

Attention:

The International Club is in need of some ethnically-minded chefs! We need ETHNIC BBQ and lots of it, so please, if you have a particular BBQ recipe that you would like to make for the upcoming International Potluck on April 4, let us know here.
And the club will reimburse you for any ingredients that you may need—but you must keep your receipts of purchase!

Thanks!

Lucas Hanshaw
Secretary-Elect

This Saturday, the International Club will host its 8th annual Food and Film festival. Considering that around fifty people attend the festival each year, it is our largest event of the fall semester. We already have a movie picked out (Le Prenom) but we need cooks! The club can pay for ingredients and provide a kitchen in which to prepare your food. If you have something you would like to make please email the name of the dish and a list of necessary ingredients ASAP to:

[email protected] or [email protected]

The Office for Study Abroad and Global Education is hosting its annual Open Mic Reception today at the Chairman's Room from 4:30-6pm. Any student who has had an international experience, be it a vacation, a semester abroad, etc. is welcome to give a brief presentation on that experience. You are also welcome to simply enjoy the pizza and brownies.
