The 2026 edition of The Hampden-Sydney Journal of the Sciences has been released! This year’s edition showcases student and faculty research alongside articles exploring local and current scientific topics, including a career retrospective from Spalding Professor of Chemistry Herb Sipe and research by Dr. Hillman Terzian ’08.

The 2026 edition (Volume 15) of The Hampden-Sydney Journal of the Sciences features research articles from Hampden-Sydney students and their advisors as well as pieces on topics of local and current scientific interest.

Thanks to a transformational $3 million commitment from the Ann K. Kirby Foundation—including a $500,000 gift and a $2.5 million matching pledge—Hampden-Sydney College is investing in the future of one of campus’s most vital facilities.

Facilitated by Wade Kirby ’80 and Roger Kirby ’88, whose leadership and dedication continue to shape the student experience, the gift honors the Kirby family’s legacy through the renaming of Kirby Field House to the Kirby Sports Center.

The facility serves as a hub for athletics, recreation, wellness, and community—supporting the leadership, camaraderie, and vibrant campus life that define Hampden-Sydney.

Hampden-Sydney College is proud to announce a transformational commitment from the Ann K. Kirby Foundation in support of one of the most vital and highly utilized facilities on campus, renamed the Kirby Sports Center.

Several students visited Lunenburg Middle School yesterday in support of the Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) Taking Flight Project, which donated 12 bicycles to middle school students. Special thanks to everyone involved and to those who generously contributed to make this initiative possible!
