Congratulations to the Hampton University Solar Decathlon Design Team for winning 1st Place in the Urban Single Family Undergraduate Division and 2nd Place Urban Single Family Division Overall. The team was comprised of both Architecture and Engineering students and these students put in hours of hard work culminating in a trip to Colorado to present their hard work. The students were advised by Dr. Jeewan Lee and Professor Laura Battaglia. We are especially proud of the way the students represented Hampton University!

For those who do not know The U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon is a collegiate competition, comprising 10 contests, that challenges student teams to design and build highly efficient and innovative buildings powered by renewable energy. The winners will be those teams that best blend design architectural and engineering excellence with innovation, market potential, building efficiency, and smart energy production.

Every Friday at 1:00pm the Hampton University Department of Architecture invites a guest lecturer to talk about their experiences in architecture and to provide their perspective on the field of architecture to our students. The lectures take place in the Bemis Lab Auditorium. Students have the chance to hear from accomplished professionals and to ask questions. We have already heard from Mr. William Stanley of Stanley, Love-Stanley PC and Professor David Hughes and next Friday we will hear from Mr. Martin Smith of the National Council of Architecture Registration Boards.

Norfolk-based architectural firm Hanbury is continuing its support for the HU Department of Architecture. Below are principal Wesley Page, FAIA, and Chris Charles, both HUDA alumni, with chair Robert Easter on the occasion of their sharing a generous $2500 gift to support the program. A great firm, great people, great professionals and a deeply appreciated part of the Bemis family!
