Professor Sean Westwood has won a 2025 Cozzarelli Prize from the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, one of the world’s most-cited multidisciplinary scientific journals, for research showing that AI can corrupt public opinion polling. “We can no longer trust that survey responses are coming from real people,” the associate professor of government says. His study found that AI agents can complete surveys with coherent, human-seeming responses, evading every detection method currently in use.
The Cozzarelli Prize recognizes the government professor’s research showing how AI can rig online surveys.
