JMU had an excellent weekend at Liberty University! We brought six teams and three of them made it to elimination rounds, and we brought home six speaker awards.

In the novice division:
Leon Lopez and Matt Gowel went 2-4 and had a great time!

Lucas Tiffany and Maria Pinto went 3-3!
Gia Kardos and Draic McConville went 2-4 and Gia was 10th speaker and Draic was 5th!

In JV:
Maggie Matzen and Berkley Smith were undefeated in the preliminary rounds and advanced to semifinals. Berkley was 3rd speaker and Maggie was top speaker!

In open:
Anna Oehler and Tarang Mishra were undefeated in the preliminary rounds and advanced to semifinals.
Roy Rinehart and Jameson Balda went 4-2 in the preliminary rounds and performed incredibly in their elimination rounds, winning finals against Wake Forest. Jameson was top speaker and Roy was second!

JMU Debate had a bit of a rough weekend at Kentucky, with two of our teams having to withdraw from the tournament partway through due to illness. Even so, we had a very good weekend!

In open, JMU CP finished the tournament with a 3-3 record, while both JMU BR and JMU MO had to pull out due to sickness.

In JV, the hybrid team of Indiana/JMU MC (who met each other in person less than two hours before their first round) finished preliminary rounds with a 3-3 record and made it into the partial octafinals, losing on a 2-1 decision to Minnesota HB

In novice, JMU KP had a great time at their first tournament, learned a ton about debate, and even won one of their rounds!

Special recognition to open debaters Jameson Balda and Tarang Mishra, who both had to end their tournament early when their partners were taken out by illness and immediately pivoted to helping out with less experienced debaters and supporting the rest of the team! Their commitment to the success of the whole squad exemplifies the incredible team spirit that is at the core of JMU Debate's longevity and success.
