Hart School Alum 🤝 Hart School Students

Where in the world was the Hart School this summer? SRM student, Will Shean (‘27) interned with the Bunt Cakes of Northern Virginia’s Potomac League—a collegiate summer baseball league—under Hart School and JMU Baseball alum, Ky Parott (‘17)!

While with the Bunt Cakes Will was mainly in charge of player scouting. He tracked statistics and spray charts for over 200 players using Excel and created detailed scouting reports for our team to use during games. Will also managed in-game pitch selection through PitchCom (a wireless, encrypted electronic earpiece system used to transmit pitch types and locations between coaches and players), using the data he collected to help the Cakes pitchers make informed decisions and gain an advantage over opposing hitters.

“This experience allowed me to combine data analysis, technology, and decision-making in a fast-paced environment.” - Will Shean (‘27)

Hospitality Management students Jacob LaPaugh, Kayla Awad, Julie Vasquez and Ella Fecko attended the Prosper Forum, a Food and Beverage Leaders’ Conference in Orlando, FL!

This year, only three schools were invited to participate, and JMU was proudly represented by four students out of the nine students selected overall.

The quartet, led by HM faculty member, Dr. Tony Kim had an incredible opportunity to meet and speak with GJ and Heather Hart, attend insightful sessions focused on the food and beverage industry and leadership development, and network with industry leaders from across the field.

In addition, the students received a behind-the-scenes tour of the conference operations, as well as a back-of-house tour of the Ritz-Carlton. These experiences gave them valuable insight into the hospitality industry beyond the classroom and allowed them to see leadership and operations in action!
