LMU Engineering is building momentum on the national stage.

At the AISC Student Steel Bridge Competition National Finals, our team earned a top-three national finish in stiffness and placed 13th overall out of 44 teams at nationals and 216 teams worldwide.

With a faster build time, strong structural performance, and a design praised by judges, these students showed what hands-on learning at LMU looks like in action.

Congratulations to Holt Hensley, Parker Meldrum, Waylon Ball, Aubree Laney and Ahmed Aly for representing LMU with excellence!

Shouting "congratulations!" from the rooftops! 🎓🎉
This past Saturday, the School of Engineering hit a major milestone with its first-ever graduating class.
They helped shape this program from day one, and now they’re heading out ready to build, solve, and lead.
We could not be more excited about what’s ahead for you. Congratulations, engineers!

“Watching our efforts translate into a strong performance—especially alongside larger programs—was very fulfilling. Entering as underdogs and still demonstrating consistency and competitiveness reinforced that we belong at this level.” — Aubree Laney

Proud of our LMU School of Engineering students for their strong performance at the 2026 ASCE Mid-South Student Symposium, earning 2nd overall in the Steel Bridge Competition and 3rd overall in Geo-Bucket!

Hands-on. Industry recognized. Career ready.

Students and faculty in the LMU School of Engineering recently completed the American Concrete Institute (ACI) Concrete Field Testing Technician—Grade I certification, demonstrating both knowledge and hands-on skill in testing freshly mixed concrete to industry standards.

This certification requires passing a rigorous written exam and a performance-based skills assessment covering essential testing methods. It’s practical expertise that translates directly to the job site and another example of how LMU prepares engineers to step confidently into the workforce.

You can learn a lot about concrete… by watching it slump.

Before concrete becomes part of a bridge, building, or roadway, engineers have to know how it will behave.

LMU engineering students and faculty conducted a concrete slump test to measure the material’s workability.

Next, they’ll form beams with this same concrete and test how it performs under pressure. 🔬🏗️

Congratulations to Dr. Ryan Overton on receiving the Peter G. Hoadley Award for Outstanding Engineering Educator at the 2026 American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Tennessee State Section Meeting! 👏

This statewide honor recognizes outstanding contributions to engineering education and service to the profession, and we could not think of a more deserving leader for the LMU School of Engineering.

We are proud of Dr. Overton and of the students who represented LMU so well in Smyrna. It was a great day of networking, competition and celebrating the future of civil engineering in Tennessee.
