Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia - Xi Alpha

Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia - Xi Alpha Located at Hastings College in Hastings, NE, we are the Xi Alpha chapter of ΦMA Sinfonia- the world's oldest & largest secret fraternal society in music.

"Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia is the world’s oldest and largest secret national fraternal society in music. Sinfonia was born on October 6, 1898, at the New England Conservatory in Boston, when a group of thirteen young men under the guidance of Ossian Everett Mills 'to consider the social life of the young men students of that institution [and] to devise ways and means by which it might be improved.' Si

nfonia became a national fraternity on October 6, 1900, with the admission of a group of men at the Broad Street Conservatory in Philadelphia. For over a century, Sinfonians in nearly every field of study and professional endeavor have transformed music in America. The opportunity of becoming a Sinfonian is offered to as many men as possible who, through a love for music, can assist in the fulfillment of the Fraternity’s Object and ideals either by adopting music as a profession, or by working to advance the cause of music in America" (courtesy of www.sinfonia.org). Located on the Hastings College campus in Hastings, Nebraska, the Xi Alpha chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia was established in 1986- the only chapter of a national fraternity on the Hastings College campus. This is the official page for updates on community and fraternity events, alumni networking and connection, and general information about the Xi Alpha chapter.

Last Friday, we lost one of Hastings College's finest. Dr. Jim Loch leaves behind an incomparable legacy as a music educator, principal, and professor of teacher education-- and above all, his passion for teaching and his genuine love for his students. Dr. Loch demanded and inspired the very best of his students through his overwhelming tenacity and kindness. As a lifelong brother of Phi Mu Alpha, Dr. Loch went above and beyond to lift up his community as a musician, an educator, and a human being. Our thoughts, our prayers, and our love go out to his family, his friends, and to all who loved this wonderful man.
