⭐️ This week’s senior is Intercultural Studies and Strategic Communication & Leadership double major, Katye Freeman! ⭐️

Q: What is one memory in the Cooper School you will never forget?

A: I will never forget my field experience to Panama with Ms. Clark and other Cooper School students! I had one of the best weeks of my life sharing the gospel in English classes, enjoying morning devotions with Ms. Clark and my friends, meeting national partners and missionary kids, and zip-lining.

Q: Which class was the most impactful for you?

A: I am super grateful I had a season to wrestle with the Baptist faith and ask good questions with Dr. Adams in his class The Baptist Heritage. In Dr. Crockett’s class, The Life and Works of William Carey, my understanding of a holistic approach to missions was formed, and I enjoyed seeing a glimpse into life on the field during Dr. Carey’s lifetime.

This week's summer missionary spotlight is Brandon Peters, a junior Christian Studies major at William Carey! Brandon spent his summer in Anchorage, Alaska as a college campus ministry intern. He and his team spent their weeks on the local college campus engaging with students through spiritual surveys, which aided in gauging the spiritual status of the summer students. He had many opportunities for rich Gospel conversations with students. He and his team also had the opportunity to participate in the discipleship and spiritual aid of students who were already plugged into the campus ministry to encourage them to not grow weary of the good work they are doing. Brandon’s favorite aspect of his summer was using people’s interests to share Jesus with them, whether it be coffee, sports, hiking, or more!

⭐️ This week’s senior is Christian Studies major, Dalton Thornton!

Q: Where do you see yourself serving the Lord in the next 5 years? What about the next 50?

A: Wherever the Lord calls me. As for now I am enjoying serving my calling as the Children’s Pastor at FBC Runnelstown. The next 50 are hard to predict, God can call me anywhere at any time, but selfishly I would love to move into a youth ministry role at some point.

Q: Which class was the most impactful for you?

A: I think it would have to be either Hermeneutics or Systematic Theology. Hermeneutics taught me so much about how to break the Bible down and really get and understanding for what it says. And Systematic really opened my eyes to really exploring what I believe and gaining a better perspective on what it is that I believe.

This week's summer missionary spotlight is Landon Sisco! Landon is a sophomore at William Carey, double majoring in Christian Studies and History. He spent his summer serving in South Asia, in a city that is less than 1% Christian. He worked alongside national translators to evangelize, disciple, follow through with different people groups, and map out sections of the city. Landon’s prayer for the people of South Asia is that they would “come to see Jesus as the one true God and that local believers will radically follow and share Jesus even through persecution.”

This week, we’re taking a look at Psalm 4:7, in which David declares the abundance of joy received from God. It’s easy to forget that the things of the world can never truly compare to the joy found in Christ! When things get tough this school year, remember to find rest in the Lord! He sustains and gives joy unlike any other!

This semester, we will be highlighting a Cooper School senior each week! ⭐️

This week’s senior is Christian Studies major, Alex Wroten!

Q: Who is one person in the Cooper School you will never forget?

A: I can definitely say I’ll never forget Dr. Bird. One of my favorite memories was when he was teaching about how people will sometimes say, “The Holy Spirit is leading me to do this,” even when what they’re saying is completely off or heretical. He just looked at the class and said, “That’s not the Holy Spirit, that’s reflux,” and everybody lost it! That’s just Dr. Bird. He can make you laugh, but at the same time, you can tell how seriously he loves the Lord and cares about people. He is the person I think about when I think of William Carey University.

Q: Which class was the most impactful for you?

A: Biblical Hermeneutics changed my life! Not only did it show me a whole new way to read and interpret Scripture, but it also changed the way I use it in my everyday life, whether that be in my own personal time with the Lord, memorizing scripture, or sharing with others what He has taught me.

David Blythe is a sophomore and is double majoring in Intercultural Studies and Elementary Education. He spent his summer serving the local church in Ocean City, Maryland. Much of his service included the opportunity to intentionally pour into the lives of many of the international residents who were working over the summer. David also had the opportunity to be a leader in children’s ministry by helping with weekly summer camps. David cherished his opportunities to establish real relationships, and to show Christ through the way he loves people. He says that one of his favorite aspects of his summer was, “making friends and sharing the Gospel by first showing it, then speaking it.”
