The senior Interior Design class spent its first week of the semester in St. Louis and Chicago!

Led by Claire Hamilton, associate professor of interior design in the School of Construction and Design, the class spent the week touring architectural landmarks, historic buildings, interior spaces and design showrooms.

Students also had the opportunity to learn more about the industry and see firsthand many of the spaces, products and architectural works they’ve studied throughout the program.

A Southern Miss tradition is returning this Friday night!

The Eagle Fever Run (pictured), last held in the 1980s, is back as Army ROTC cadets from Southern Miss’ Golden Eagle Battalion run from Hattiesburg to meet Alcorn State University Army ROTC cadets halfway in McComb. There, they’ll exchange the game ball ahead of Saturday’s home opener and deliver nonperishable food items to a local church organization.

Be at Screaming Eagles Friday, Sept. 4, at 9 p.m. as the Golden Eagle Battalion brings the game ball into The Rock and presents it at midfield!

We recently celebrated graduates of the School of Ocean Science and Engineering’s hydrographic science program, one of only two programs in the United States that trains Category A hydrographers at an internationally recognized level.

There’s still time to check out Toxic Beauty: Plastic’s Hidden Cost at the Mississippi Aquarium!⁠

Created through a partnership between the Mississippi Aquarium, Southern Miss School of Ocean Science and Engineering researchers, Mississippi Gulf Coast high school students and other local collaborators, the interactive exhibit turns materials collected during local beach cleanups into works of art.⁠

Southern Miss alumna Keisha Green (’20) has built an award-winning career in television, earning multiple Mississippi Association of Broadcasters Awards and, most recently, a Southeast Emmy Award for her work as producer of The Best of Late Night with Rita Brent.

A graduate of the School of Media and Communication, Green credits many of the mentors and experiences she had at Southern Miss with helping prepare her for the career she has today.

Ever wondered why parts of the beach are fenced off?

Southern Miss School of Ocean Science and Engineering student Hannah Livingston spent the summer working with Audubon Delta, collecting data and supporting their Coastal Mississippi Stewardship Program to protect least tern colonies and other coastal birds along the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

These nesting areas give shorebirds the space they need during breeding season, but stewardship continues year-round.

Held in June, the Herpetology Hike invited community members to explore Lake Thoreau after dark, spotting frogs, snakes, turtles, salamanders and other wildlife alongside Southern Miss faculty and students.

Hosted by the School of Biological, Environmental, and Earth Sciences and sponsored by Southern Prohibition, the annual hike offers a chance to experience Mississippi’s wildlife up close while also learning more about the species that call it home.
