From anchoring student newscasts to winning statewide broadcasting awards, Kennedi Drake built her foundation in journalism at Southern Miss. Now a recent graduate, she is ready to bring her passion for community-centered storytelling to viewers across Mississippi.

As a digital journalism student, Drake took advantage of the hands-on experiences offered by the School of Media and Communication. She anchored Southern Miss TV, hosted programs on WUSM 88.5 FM, and contributed to The Student Printz. These experiences strengthened her reporting skills and led to internships with WLBT in Jackson and KOMU 8 News in Missouri.

Her work earned statewide recognition, including becoming the first student to receive the Mississippi Association of Broadcasters Student Scholarship twice and earning the organization's 2026 Television Student Broadcaster of the Year award.

Now, Drake is returning to the WLBT newsroom to begin her career in Jackson this summer.
