When first made its way through the southeast, Patience was working in health care and found herself being released from work temporarily as adjustments were made to staffing procedures. After a delay in unemployment payments, Patience applied for assistance for her power bill until she could get back to work full time a few weeks later. Thanks to donors like you, United Way of Southeast Mississippi’s COVID-19 Relief Program could keep the lights on for Patience and her daughter.

A young couple with a brand new baby could never have imagined parenthood would hit at the same time as a pandemic. When Jaxon was let go from his job due to the local company’s loss in income, Brooklyn found herself going back to work sooner than planned. Although the family was grateful to have that option, it wasn’t enough to pay all the expenses they were facing, including their recent hospital bills. While Jaxon waited to be approved for unemployment benefits, United Way of Southeast Mississippi’s Relief Program helped them sleep a little easier, paying $180 towards their water bill.

Prior to , a typical day for the Gillespies consisted of Sonya going to classes to get her degree while Dillon headed to work, dropping their daughter off at school on the way. When the family’s sole provider was laid off from work, Dillon and Sonya had to come up with a plan to pay the bills while also protecting their daughter with asthma.

Without receiving extra assistance from United Way of Southeast Mississippi’s COVID-19 Relief Program, they would have faced their power being turned off; but, thanks to donors like you, we were able to keep the lights on while Dillon could find another job.
