Meet the Staff

Within the last two and a half years, Northern Essex Community College has hired a Public Safety Director/Chief of Police with over 30 years of Campus Police experience throughout Massachusetts, ranging from dispatcher to Chief of Police. In addition, the College hired a civilian Administrative Operations Manager with over 20 years experience working in local law enforcement/fire and campus police departments as a dispatcher and shift leader in both Michigan and Massachusetts. The Chief is currently in the process of hiring a Deputy Chief.

The bulk of Public Safety is comprised of contracted security from an independent security company. These men and women are on duty 24 hours each day at the Haverhill campus and during operating hours at the Lawrence campus - there is, however, a guard stationed at the 414 Common St desk 24/7.

In addition to conducting patrols of the campuses on a regular basis, Public Safety provides assistance in emergency situations, investigates suspicious activities and intercedes in volatile situations. They work closely with local and state police when incidents may require the response of law enforcement officers. Public Safety is responsible for a wide range of safety services including the preparation of crime reports and the preliminary investigation of crimes, medical or fire emergencies and accidents. While security personnel are not sworn law enforcement officers, they do receive regular in-service training in security procedures.
