👋 Yesterday, we welcomed Kentucky Community & Technical College System President Dr. Ryan Quarles to HCTC for a KCTCS for Kentucky event focused on listening, learning and shaping the future of our system.

🤩 During the event, we recognized our 2025-26 KCTCS scholars, Stephen Wooton and Alyson Brielle Halsey, and heard directly from students, employers and community members through discussions.

🗣️ Most importantly, the day gave us an opportunity to gather valuable input about how HCTC and KCTCS can continue strengthening the services, programs and opportunities we provide to communities across the region and Commonwealth.

🎤 Kentucky Community & Technical College System President Dr. Ryan Quarles and Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH) Vice President of Talent Strategy Dylon Baker recently spoke at the Southeastern Employment and Training Association (SETA) Conference, held 08/31-09/03 in Louisville.

🤝 HCTC Chancellor Dr. Jennifer Lindon and Vice Chancellor of Workforce Solutions Dr. Keila Miller represented HCTC at the annual conference, which connects workforce partners from eight Southeastern states.

⭐ Eastern Kentucky CEP Executive Director Becky Carnes-Miller, Kentucky’s representative on the SETA board, helped organize this year’s conference and did a marvelous job representing our region.

🎓 Mason Franklin has been selected to serve as the KCTCS student regent, representing students across 16 colleges and more than 70 locations throughout Kentucky.

🤝 From supporting his peers at HCTC to helping shape conversations about the future of higher education and workforce development across the Commonwealth, Mason is ready to make a difference.

📣 ICYMI: Faculty members from HCTC recently sat down with WYMT’s McKinley Calandrino TV
to discuss how artificial intelligence is changing the classroom — and how educators are helping students use these tools responsibly.

🤖 Ben Taylor, assistant professor of English, and Dr. Amanda Spencer-Barnes, professor of math and statistics, shared how they are incorporating conversations about AI, ethics and critical thinking into their courses while preparing students for a workforce where AI will increasingly be part of the job.

🧠 At HCTC, the goal isn’t simply to teach students how to use new technology. It’s to help them evaluate information, think critically and understand when and how these tools should be used.

🔙 In 1883, our story began in Jackson, Breathitt County; in 1894, Labor Day became a federal holiday; in 1945, the vocational school that would become our Technical Campus began serving the region; and in 1968, Hazard Community College came to life.

🛠️ From the coal mines to healthcare, our history is intertwined with the labor that built and sustained our region.

🇺🇸 We’re proud of that legacy — and proud to prepare the workforce of tomorrow.

🫶 HCTC faculty and staff were out and about in our communities this weekend, enjoying the fun and festivities — because we put the community in community college!

🚗 Our representatives took part in the Breathitt County Honey Festival and Wolfe County Swift Silver Mine Festival parades.

👋 We loved seeing so many familiar faces along the routes!
