Helena College was proud to participate in the third annual Currents of Connection Speech Symposium, hosted by Great Falls College MSU. This marked the first year the event expanded to include a cross-campus collaboration, with Helena College students joining their peers in competition.
Among the standout speakers was Helena College dual enrollment student Eden Garcia da Silva, who shared a powerful and personal story about resilience. In her speech, Eden reflected on two miracles following a devastating car crash involving her mother: her mother’s recovery and Eden’s own journey to find her voice despite acute introversion, made possible through the support of those who stepped in to help her family.
The symposium brought together students from both institutions to explore this year’s theme, “Connection,” highlighting the role of communication in fostering empathy, understanding, and community.
“This is an incredible opportunity for students to showcase their communication skills and to highlight how meaningful discourse can foster empathy, understanding, and connection in our communities,” said Helena College communications instructor Veronica Mohrmann.
The event featured a keynote address from Jordan Lankford-Forster and included strong participation from students across the region.
We’re excited to continue building this partnership. Next year, Helena College will host the Currents of Connection Speech Symposium, welcoming students from across Montana to share their voices and stories.
