"I am so happy I decided to apply for the Amsterdam Exchange Program. I always had the idea of doing a semester abroad but I really didn’t have the funds to do this, and when I heard that this program was on a scholarship I quickly got on to it. I was so happy to have the opportunity to explore this part of Europe, since even though I have lived in Spain for a long time, I had never been to the Netherlands. It has definitely been one of my most memorable experiences in my undergraduate career."

Living in Amsterdam was not only an amazing opportunity to situate myself in one of the oldest, happiest European cities, but also situated me in the perfect position to travel around Western Europe! I loved comparing cultures with Dutch friends and adapting to the different learning style at the University of Amsterdam. I went to Spain, Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland, England, Scotland, Italy, and the Czech Republic. I would highly, highly, highly recommend the program to anyone with even a sliver of interest in arts and culture. When I applied for the program, I had never even left the U.S. (except for once... as a baby!). The exchange program was perfect and I'm super grateful towards your department and to Hofstra for offering this to the students-- it's a lifetime worth of cultural enrichment!
-Lizzie Frank, Amsterdam Scholarship Exchange

"Everyone told me to study abroad and to never miss out on this opportunity, I knew it would be amazing, but I didn't know how life changing it would actually be. There is so much in this world to see, so many sights, foods, and so much culture to learn about and take in. I have grown as a person and learned things about me that I never knew. I've met so many people here along this journey and some of these people have become my best friends and people who will be in my life forever. If you're ever debating about study abroad or not, DON'T! It is the most amazing experience you could get in all of college. Leaving in a month will be one of the hardest things ever. I'm so thankful for everything Study Abroad has given me and I wouldn't trade it for the world."

“This was the first time I was traveling outside the country without really knowing anyone. I just took a risk. I’ve always found that taking big risks tend to turn out well, or at least teach you a lesson, and this experience studying abroad in Spain was both. I learned how to be independent and grow into my own person, all while making incredible friends and (obviously) advancing my Spanish-Speaking. Living in Granada for 4 weeks was the most remarkable experience of my life, not only because I got to travel and see a small corner of Europe, but also because I gained a kind of knowledge I never could have gotten doing anything else. Spain, and the world all around, has not seen the last of me.”

“I wanted a location that was nontraditional, I didn't want something easy or some place where a lot of people had been. I saw a pamphlet for a linguistic anthropology course in a former Soviet Union Country. It also said I would get to live with nomads for a week in the mountains. That sealed the deal for me. While there I learned some basic Russian and Kyrgyz, and was able to learn the Cyrillic alphabet. I also learned horsemanship while on my week trek, as well as made lifelong friends with both Kyrgyz and other Americans. For me this program made me more independent and self reliant, as well as boost my self confidence. It also made me want to travel the world to more less traveled locations and experience different cultures.”

Best wishes to Miranda Pasquarella who worked in our office!

"I got to spend a week in Beijing where I got to visit the Great Wall of China and the Summer Palace and a few other places. Then I went to Wuhan where I taught English at Huazhong Agricultural University. My students were all amazing, and I really loved being in China. It's such an interesting country. I hope I can go back there soon!"

"I grew so much as a person over the past few months, whether it was learning how to use the public transportation system or trying foods I never thought I'd ever try, I certainly gained self-reliance and independence. By immersing myself in the fascinating Australian culture, I learned how to adjust to a totally different environment while picking up on their popular slang terms and lifestyle. I was able to see my culture through another lens and most importantly, I learned how to appreciate the small things in life. Not only did I become friends with local Australians, but I formed friendships with people all over the world that will last forever. I began this adventure in Cairns for the program orientation, where I held a koala bear, pet a kangaroo and went scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef. I am so happy that I chose Melbourne because it is one of the 'world's most livable cities'. The location of my housing was absolutely perfect since it was a 10-minute walk from campus and the center of the city. The city made it easy to never run out of things to do. There was always something going on, like trivia nights at a bar, pub crawls, free art museums and plenty of delicious restaurants. I also traveled outside of Melbourne as well, such as Western Australia, Sydney and Tasmania, which were all amazing experiences. I am extremely thankful for my dream of studying abroad in Australia to come true. Studying abroad has changed me for the better and has inspired me to travel even more to see our beautiful world."-Kennedy Cymerman
