We really need your help.

We are making plans for Fall clinical experiences and are in need of some adjunct Clinical Instructors. We are particularly looking for a couple with Adult Health experience (ideally). Depending on experience, interest, and availability, there could be opportunities with our juniors and seniors.

As I consider what I'm about to share and ask of you, I'm mindful of various scriptures. Psalms 127:3-5, "Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children[a] of one's youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them!." Galatians 6:2, "Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ." Finally, Matthew 25:40, "And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’"

The share: Yesterday, I learned of a very specific, and urgent need. There is a 6-year old child, with autism, that has been living with his grandmother for the past year. This arrangement is because the child witnessed the murder of their mother, as well as another family member (murder-suicide), then the child was alone in the house for 4 days until this tragedy was found. The child's grandmother is in very poor health, and as I understand, does not have very much time left at all. Given the challenges and family dynamics, no family is either willing or able to care for the child. If a loving and committed home is not found for this child, they will likely end up as a ward of the state, which is not a desired situation even in the best of circumstances. This child is in desperate need of some loving people to accept them, welcome them, provide for them, and make a home for them.

The ask: If you have interest in learning further about how you might be able to meet the needs of this child, please contact Chris White at ([email protected]). If you are not able, but know of someone who might be, please share this and my contact information with them. Finally, if you know of any agencies/services or other loving resources that could guide us toward getting this child's needs met, please share that with me. As indicated above, due to the health of the child's grandmother, there is urgency in the meeting of this need.

Big shout out to the team in the FHU Registrar's Office, especially Stephanie Duncan and Kim Cook!! They quickly processed the transcript requests for our Nursing graduates, and because of that, we have graduates already getting their Authorization to Test from their Boards of Nursing!! This is phenomenal!! They just graduated Saturday, and we've already got a graduate scheduled to take the NCLEX this Thursday. That has never happened so fast!!

Well done, team!! Thank you for your support of our students and their needs.

Yesterday was a high stress kind of day for our senior Nursing students. It was the day of their final nursing assessment while in the program, the comprehensive predictor. To say it is significant, would be an understatement.

Several years ago, the tradition of the "primal scream" before the assessment was introduced. This is an opportunity to go out and collectively let out the stresses, anxieties, and fears that might be resting in their minds and on their shoulders in a tangible way. The goal is to help clear their mind of any negative mental loop they might be in as they "go once more unto the breach". More often than not, they then enter the room with some smiles, a few laughs, and much less tension. This is followed by a prayer for peace, recollection, thanksgiving, and then the time is theirs.

Well done seniors....well done!!

Our seniors received a very thoughtful encouragement from the Kindergarten class of Miss Madison Taberner at Wirt County Primary Center in Elizabeth, West Virginia. It was a great way to brighten the day, as our seniors were about to take their comprehensive predictor assessment.

Madison is the sister of our senior Nursing student, Carly Taberner. As you can see, it brought huge smiles to their faces!! Thank you to Miss Taberner and her wonderful group of Kindergarten students.
