Move-in day recycling was successful at about 60% of cardboard making it into a recycling dumpster. In the past, only about 25% of cardboard was recycled. Charter was the best with a full recycling dumpster with cardboard and packing material. In previous years the dumpsters were filled to capacity and trash was piled on the ground looking like a volcanic eruption had occurred.

Recycling during campus move-in on Friday. All residence hall dumpsters have been labeled with the signs in the pictures below. The goal is to recycle cardboard and encourage recycling in general. The plan is to more permanent signs on the dumpsters after move-in. If you see a recycling foul, please share how excited you are about how easy it is to recycle at NEC.

We filled an NEC van with ~25 large bags of clothes from the Reverse the Wreckage collection of usable items as students moved out of the residence halls. The bags were dropped off at the Salvation Army in Concord. The photo doesn't do the effort justice. It was raining when the bags were dropped off and starting to get miserable. We ended up filling two of the large collection bins. One of them Kimon is wrestling with in the picture. Kimon won. This was in addition to the 15 large boxes of collected food that were taken to the Henniker Food Pantry.
