What if your classroom experience started before you became a teacher? 🍎 This semester, Education students in NEC’s Methods of Teaching Social Studies course are gaining hands-on experience as historical researchers through a partnership with the Henniker Historical Society and Museum.

By researching historic maps, property records, photographs, archival materials, and other primary sources, students are learning firsthand how place-based and inquiry-driven learning can bring history to life.

It’s the kind of experience that helps future educators build the skills, confidence, and perspective they’ll take into their own classrooms. 📚

Creating space for conversation, connection, and the open exchange of ideas! 🤝 Our recent NEC Town Hall Series brought together Lily Tang Williams, Republican candidate for New Hampshire’s 2nd Congressional District, Cinde Warmington, Democratic candidate for New Hampshire governor, and Scott Brown, Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, with members of the NEC community and local residents. 🎤

Thank you to everyone who joined us, asked questions, and helped make these conversations so meaningful.

We're excited to announce Peter Merriam '78 and Diana Merriam '78 as the recipients of the 2026 Simon Family Award for Philanthropy in recognition of their extraordinary generosity and enduring commitment to the College.

Both members of the Class of 1978, Peter and Diana have remained loyal supporters of NEC for many years. As the owners of Merriam Vineyards in California's Russian River Valley, they have also welcomed fellow alumni by hosting an NEC alumni event at their vineyard.

Most recently, Peter and Diana made a significant gift in support of the renovation of the New England College Athletic Center, where the Merriam Fitness Center now bears their name. Their generosity has enhanced the student experience and will benefit the NEC community for years to come.

Through their philanthropy and continued engagement, Peter and Diana have made a lasting impact on New England College. The NEC Alumni Council is proud to recognize Peter and Diana with the 2026 Simon Family Award for Philanthropy.
