Strong Appalachian Women

Theresa L. Burriss
In this thirty minute virtual session, Theresa Burriss will highlight some of the fierce women of the Appalachian region, including both real-life activists and fictional characters in novels. The bravery, dedication, and servant leadership of these individuals serve as inspiration to women and men alike, whether from the region or not.

Theresa L. Burriss was born and raised in Bristol, TN/VA, and has dedicated her life to serving, teaching about, and publishing about the Appalachian region. Many of her publications focus on the Affrilachian Writers, the topic of her dissertation. In Fall 2021, Theresa was awarded a Fulbright Teaching & Research Grant and taught Appalachian Literature at Transilvania University in Brasov, Romania, and conducted ethnographic research in the Jiu Valley, Romania’s coalmining region.

Introduction to Data Analytics Virtual Program - Registration Closes July 27, 2026
