On Honors Day, majors Briana Malone and Meach Lukaitis presented their research at High-PURCS. They have diligently worked with Dr. Jakub Michel using NCAA track and field data to identify which schools have progressing programs and which developed their athletes on a year to year basis. Both students are track and field athletes, so this research was of great personal interest!

Abigail Hyatt, an HPU '25 Mathematics major with a minor in Computer Science, will be pursuing her PhD in Mathematics in Clemson, South Carolina.

“HPU provided me with opportunities to grow both academically and personally. Through supportive faculty, leadership roles and hands-on experiences, I gained confidence, communication skills and a strong foundation in my field. The math department, in particular, challenged me to think critically and explore complex ideas, helping me discover my passion for theoretical mathematics and preparing me for graduate study.”

The Association for Women in Mathematics is pleased to announce that the 2026 M. Gweneth Humphreys Award for Mentoring will be awarded to Anant P. Godbole, professor emeritus of mathematics and statistics, East Tennessee State University, and adjunct faculty in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at High Point University.

Dr. Godbole is being recognized for his significant and lasting contributions in mentoring and for his impact on the mathematics community. The award will be presented during the Joint Prize Session on Monday, January 5, 2026 at the Joint Mathematics Meetings in Washington, DC.
