Congratulations to NQSC alum Anna Harris on winning the Edward R. Murrow Award for Best Regional Investigative Reporting - one of the most prestigious honors in broadcast and digital journalism!

Investigative reporting takes patience, courage, and an unwavering commitment to truth. Anna has all three, and this recognition is a testament to the quality of work she is doing in the field.

Anna is a morning anchor at Live 5 News in Charleston, SC. She won this award for her investigative reporting on the poor conditions and slow responses at the Charleston Housing Authority.

We are incredibly proud to call her one of our own. This is exactly the kind of impact we hope every NQSC graduate goes out and makes.

HPU Ganbatte students were led through a high-energy workshop by the kendo club of Osaka Gakuin University. After warming up, students watched a practice match, then were given shinai (bamboo swords) and taught the four strikes of kendo. After more practice, the workshop culminated in a kiai (a powerful, focused spirit shout) competition

Greensboro for their recent trip to the Vatican, where they received a rare behind-the-scenes look at global communications and media strategy inside one of the world’s most influential institutions.

From crisis communication to international broadcasting, this once-in-a-lifetime experience gave students firsthand insight into how messaging reaches more than 1.4 billion Catholics worldwide - proving that communications has the power to connect people across cultures and continents.

Thank you to FOX8 Greensboro for highlighting this incredible opportunity and the future communicators bringing these lessons back home.

Final day in Italy 🇮🇹✨

Today, the HPU International Strategic Communication Global Experience cohort traveled to Como, acity that has been a global hub for silk production for centuries, for a visit to the Como Silk Museum. Students traced the entire silk-making process from silkworm cultivation to weaving and printing, while exploring how the museum communicates Como’s heritage to international audiences through storytelling, sustainability, and inclusion.

The afternoon offered one last free day to take in Northern Italy — Lake Como’s lakeside promenade, the Duomo di Como, and a few final espressos before heading home. The trip closed with a group farewell dinner at La Porta Rossa in Milan, where 17 students, two professors, and one extraordinary tour leader reflected on three weeks that took us from Naples to Milan, through Pompeii, Rome, Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Parma, and Como, with conversations along the way at the U.S. Consulate, the Vatican, the European Parliament, Italy’s National Institute of Health, the International Rescue Committee, ISPI, SAY Agency, and the ADI Design Museum. Three weeks. Eight cities. Countless lessons in how communication shapes culture and how culture shapes communication.

Tomorrow, we fly home. Grazie, Italia. 🌍📚✈️

Day 1 in Milan 🇮🇹 The HPU International Strategic Communication Global Experience cohort kicked off the morning with two business talks. First, a virtual session with Joanna Naorska, Associate Director of Public Affairs and Communications for Europe at the International Rescue Committee, who walked students through how a global humanitarian organization uses communication for profile, income, and influence. Then, students met with SAY Agency, an integrated communication and marketing firm whose recent work spans the University Hospital of Padua, the FIFA World Cup, and the Milano Cortina Olympics 2026. The afternoon brought a guided tour of Milan, including a visit to the iconic Duomo — one of the largest cathedrals in the world and a centuries-long lesson in how a city builds and broadcasts identity through architecture. From humanitarian storytelling to Olympic-scale brand strategy to Gothic spires, today was a study in how communication operates across radically different contexts. ⛪🌍

Come join us on the kimono workshop in Osaka, Japan! Following the maymester program Gambette! Adventuring in Japan 🇯🇵

Our students are halfway around the world in Osaka on Ganbatte! Adventuring in Japan, NQSC’s Maymester study abroad experience, and today they traded notebooks for aprons.

They spent the morning in a traditional Japanese cooking class, learning to make miso soup, onigiri, green tea, and more, hands on and from scratch in one of Japan’s most vibrant food cities.

From cultural immersion to unforgettable experiences beyond the classroom, this is what experiential learning looks like when you take learning global.

From classrooms to real-world experiences

Olivia, an STC major, visited the Life Safety Learning Center in Osaka to learn emergency procedures and disaster preparedness firsthand. Experiences like this highlight the importance of understanding different cultures, human communication, and how to effectively connect across cultural barriers.

Being an STC major goes beyond the classroom - it’s about learning how communication shapes the way we support, inform, and connect with people around the world.
