BLSA wants to congratulate our December 2023 graduate JaShay Nix. JaShay was a role model for many and always gave good advice and encouragement to fellow students. While a student at Chase, JaShay: held leadership positions on the BLSA Exec Board; participated in the Children’s Law Clinic; Clerked for a local judge; competed as an Oralist at the Thurgood Marshall Moot Court Competition; and even got a couple of CALI awards along the way. JaShay, we are proud of you and look forward to witnessing your continued success! 👩‍🎓📚⚖️

Our First General Body Meeting last week was a success. Thanks to all who attended and a special thanks to Professor Graham and Chase Alumni Jabari Shaw for giving great advice on how to navigate our Law School journey! At Chase we are fortunate to have Alumni and Faculty that pour into the student body. We look forward to seeing everyone at the next meeting. Have a great week!

BLSA is proud of our member Gabby Givens for making NKU Chase College of Law’s Mock Trial Competition Team this academic year where she will compete against teams from various law schools across the country. Gabby will be involved in carrying out: opening statements; witness examinations; and closing arguments.

Gabby is a Cincinnati, Ohio native that finished her undergraduate education at the University of Cincinnati. Gabby’s current job, at the Hamilton County Courthouse, sparked her interest in Criminal Litigation and Public Advocacy. Gabby will skillfully pursue these areas after Law School.

Hey Everyone,

My name is Derrick Reedus and this year I'm excited to serve as the Secretary for BLSA. I’m a 3L from Akron, Ohio and I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Cincinnati. Over the summer I clerked for the Louisiana Center for Children’s Rights in New Orleans. My responsibilities included: legal research; fact investigation; drafting memoranda and motions; developing holistic service plans; preparing for adjudication hearings; and litigation where children are facing life without parole. We also work to get adult clients, who were sentenced to life with no parole as a kid, parole eligibility. My career goal is to be an Intellectual Property Attorney in Patents or Copyright/Trademarks.

I look forward to meeting everyone and working with you throughout the year!
