Beta Runs For Charity 2k17

Beta Runs For Charity 2k17 What's Happening? This upcoming May both Tristan Hollenbaugh and Nick Kalimtzis will be participating in their first half marathon!

Leading up to registration there was a bit of competitiveness in the air and both ex-wrestlers felt they could give each other a run for their money (pun fully intended). A variety of ridiculous wager ideas were being tossed out but neither could agree on a fair bet, in that moment we thought why not make this fun but make it for a greater cause? We came up with the great idea of running for chari

ty while keeping the competitive flair! How It Works

Each runner is representing a charity of their choice. Tristan will be running for Hilarity For Charity and Nick will be running for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Both runners will be campaigning for you to support them and their respective charity through a donation on our GoFundMe page (link below). All donations collected will go towards the winning runner's charity, so show some support for your runner and help motivate them as they train for race day! Congratulations to The Jet and La Maquina for finishing the Airbnb Brooklyn Half yesterday and raising over $1000 for a good cause! This year Team Tristan got the W but Nick has already started training for next year. The koozies are currently being distributed and if you still want to get one it's not too late! We're keeping the gofundme open for a few more days and are extremely grateful for any last minute donations.

Bio Post Numero Dos:

Tristan “La Maquina” Hollenbaugh is a New York native who grew up on the hills of Rockland County. At a young age, he began his karate career at Tiger Schulmann’s, where he qualified for his black belt but then called it quits because it “wasn’t for him.” He went on to find more of an interest in the sport of wrestling, having gone undefeated in his first season circa 2008. In his early high school years at Don Bosco Preparatory High School, he earned himself his nickname “La Maquina” because he was known to go on Forrest Gump-esque runs after his matches. No one really knows how long they actually were, but legend says they were about 20 to 30 miles on average. Unfortunately, the decorated wrestler was told by doctors during his sophomore year of college that he was no longer allowed to step foot on the mat due to various injuries, but that didn’t stop him from competing! He’ll be running the Brooklyn half on May 20th for Hilarity for Charity

As you may have seen, both runners are underway with training, ripping shoes and breathing heavy along the way! Expect plenty of updates to come since raceday is only 44 days out.

Lastly, we'd like to let you know a little more about our fabulous runners and phenomenal charities, keep an eye out for a series of informative/biographical posts throughout the week along with training updates!

P.S. here's a candid stare-down during an argument of who can rock the headband better, let us know what you think!

Nick Update 2: Attempted to start the week off strong with a nice 5 mile run this morning before class, but took some L's along the way. Around mile 2 my foot ripped through my shoe and caused me to trip and fall in front of an elementary class of kids who then proceeded to laugh at me. I then walked the last mile home cold, wet, and shoe less, but nevertheless I got a workout in. Despite the L's and embarrassment i was dealt with today, I was still able to keep a competitive pace with Tristan Hollenbaugh who has been awfully quiet recently. On a positive note, I upgraded to a headband and I WILL BE ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR A COACH as it is getting closer to race day. -NK

P.S. I will also be competing against Tristan Hollenbaugh in the Spell-a-THON tomorrow night at 9 pm.

Took advantage of the nice weather yesterday and ran a solid 5.5 miles. To track my progress, I used Nike's running app along with various pictures during my journey through Hoboken and Weehawken. Saw a bunch of friendly faces along the way including Tristan Hollenbaugh who was preparing for his role in DPhiE's annual philanthropy Castle Point King(Donate and buy your tickets today). -Nick Kalimtzis
