From labs and internships to leadership and service, Phillip Bone and Alwin John have made the most of their Stevens journeys. Now, they’re taking the Commencement stage as this year’s elected student speakers 🎓

Bone, of St. Louis, Missouri, explored research across several Stevens labs while gaining industry experience with . As captain of the men’s volleyball team, he helped lead Stevens to four consecutive MAC championships and was named MAC Rookie of the Year during his first season. He graduates from Stevens with a Bachelor of Engineering in biomedical engineering.

John, of Kollam, Kerala, India, found community and purpose through her work in the Office of the Provost, involvement in student organizations and volunteer efforts across campus. She also served as a strategic planning AI intern with the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development, applying AI and data-driven analysis to support policy and operational decision-making. She graduates from Stevens with a Master of Science in information systems.

Stevens proudly celebrates Emily Lossman ’28 on being named a 2026 Goldwater Scholar, one of the nation’s most prestigious honors for undergraduate students in engineering, mathematics and the natural sciences! 🎉👏

Selected from nearly 1,500 applicants nationwide, Lossman is being recognized for her work in marine energy and sustainable ocean engineering. Through her AquaEmpower initiative, she is exploring wave-powered solutions for sustainable biomass production and strengthening economic resilience in coastal communities.

She also played an instrumental role in her team’s $20,000 grand prize victory at the 2026 Marine Energy Collegiate Competition hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy.
