Labor Day is more than a long weekend. It is a recognition of the people whose work keeps our organizations and communities moving forward.

At the National Command & Staff College, we have the privilege of working with public safety professionals whose careers are built around something even bigger: service.

They lead teams. Protect communities. Make difficult decisions. Develop the people coming behind them. And often do work that most people will never see.

This Labor Day, we recognize the dedication, hard work, and sacrifice of those who serve, protect, build, and lead across our nation.

To the public safety professionals we serve, and to working Americans everywhere, thank you for what you contribute every day.

Happy Labor Day from the National Command & Staff College.

Leadership should not begin with a promotion.

By the time someone is handed more responsibility, they should already be developing the skills to carry it.

The ICLD I–IV Leadership Development Series creates a progressive pathway that develops leaders from the inside out:
âś“ ICLD I: Leadership starts with you
âś“ ICLD II: Build the skills to lead others
âś“ ICLD III: Shape culture, not just tasks
âś“ ICLD IV: Think and lead at the organizational level

The goal is bigger than completing another leadership course.

It is developing credible leaders who are prepared for the responsibility before the organization needs them to step into it.

Build the leader before you need the leader.

Special pricing is currently available.

The promotion may happen in one day.
The transition to leading people does not.

One of the hardest shifts in law enforcement is moving from being responsible for your own performance to being responsible for everyone else's.

Now the decisions are different.

You are coaching people you used to work beside.
Correcting performance.
Holding standards.
Managing conflict.
Making decisions that affect culture, careers, and sometimes the entire agency.

A new title does not automatically create those skills.

That is why the National Command & Staff College builds leadership development as a progression, not a one-time class.

Give emerging leaders the tools before they are forced to learn leadership through trial and error.

Tactical operators don't get to wait for perfect conditions.

They make decisions when information is incomplete, pressure is high, time is short, and the consequences are real.

That is exactly why resilience alone is no longer enough.

On September 1 and 2, Dr. Mitch Javidi and Justin King led two sessions of Elastic Leadership for Tactical Operators at the National Tactical Officers Association Annual Law Enforcement Operations Conference in Nashville, Tennessee.

More than 150 law enforcement professionals working in high-stakes tactical environments joined them for a different conversation about performance under pressure.

Not simply, How do we endure more?

But:

How do we expand our capacity to think, adapt, decide, and lead when the environment changes around us?

Through MAGNUS strategies, participants explored ways to increase their capacity to make critical decisions with greater clarity during critical incidents, when stress is high and the margin for error is small.

These are elite operators already trained to perform when it matters most.
Elastic Leadership challenges them to go further.

Resilience helps us recover.

Elasticity helps us adapt while the pressure is still on.

We are proud of Dr. Mitch Javidi and Justin King for bringing this work to the NTOA community, and grateful to the more than 150 professionals who invested their time in becoming even more prepared for the moments when their people and communities need them most.

This is where leadership meets readiness.

What happens when you bring leadership development directly to your agency?
In Las Cruces, New Mexico, nearly 45 law enforcement leaders came together across two MAGNUS Leadership Workshops, hosted in partnership with the Las Cruces Police Department.

Leaders from Las Cruces PD and surrounding New Mexico agencies didn’t have to travel across the country for meaningful leadership development. The training came to them.
MAGNUS Leadership Instructor Justin King led both workshops, creating an opportunity for leaders from across the region to learn together, challenge how they think, and bring practical leadership tools back to their agencies.

A special thank you to Chief Story and the Las Cruces Police Department staff for opening their doors and making this opportunity available to leaders beyond their own agency.
That is the power of hosting a MAGNUS Leadership Workshop.

You develop your people while creating an opportunity for agencies across your region to develop theirs.

Your agency could be the next host.

Bring MAGNUS Leadership to your department and turn your agency into a regional destination for leadership development.
