Teacher Appreciation Week has OAO on the Move!
Last week, we had the joy of celebrating the incredible educators and staff at Holly Springs Primary School and the Marshall County Eddie Lee Dixon Vocational Tech School. Their dedication, passion, and love for our students continue to strengthen the heart of Marshall County. 💚🍎✨

Special thanks to the Uplift Our Local Community Initiative Chairman Soror Tarry, Soror Wonso, and all Initiative members for making this week—and next week—happen. Your leadership and service shine so brightly. 💕💚

And we’re not done yet—H.W. Byers invited OAO, and we’ll be there this week to continue spreading appreciation and encouragement to the teachers who give so much every day.

It’s always the right time to empower our community through voter education, information, and registration!

As part of our Advocate for Social Justice Initiative, the Voter Education and Registration Event at Horn Lake High School was truly powerful and impactful. Students gained meaningful, hands‑on insight into the voting process and the importance of making their voices heard.

Through a strong collaborative effort, Career Coaches partnered with a DeSoto County Election Commissioner to help students deepen their understanding of civic engagement and the election process. Moments like these shape informed, confident future voters — and that’s worth celebrating.

As part of our Advocate for Social Justice Initiative, the event empowered students with the knowledge and access needed to actively participate in the democratic process, ensuring that young people not only recognize the power of their voice but are equipped to use it.

Students participated in a realistic voting experience using actual voting machines, making the learning both interactive and meaningful. As a direct result of this initiative, 61 first‑time voters were successfully registered, marking an incredible milestone in empowering young voices within our community.

A heartfelt thank you goes to Commissioner Sissy Ferguson for her unwavering support and dedication to student learning. This successful event was thoughtfully coordinated by Career Coaches Robin Henessee and our chapter Advocate for Social Justice Co-Chairman, Pat Brady, whose commitment continues to make a lasting difference.

Under the Enhance Our Environment Initiative, the Omicron Alpha Omega Chapter proudly recognized 2026 Earth Day, National Arbor Day, and Mississippi Native American Plant Day by planting three new trees in our adopted Rosenwald Sims Park. 🌳💗💚

These additions beautifully complement the four trees planted in 2025, continuing our commitment to environmental stewardship and community enhancement.

This year’s planting was a true collaboration, supported by the Mississippi State Extension Service (Lemon Phelps), Strawberry Plains (Tim Bisenius), Melvin King, and Joyce Holland (Master Gardener). Their expertise and partnership helped make this effort meaningful and sustainable.

Despite the forecast, the rain held off, giving us a beautiful nature‑filled day to celebrate growth, restoration, and service.

The event was led with excellence by Initiative Chairman Beryl Freeman, the dedicated members of the Enhance Our Environment Committee, and Chapter President Attorney Shirley Byers.

Omicron Alpha Omega continues to plant seeds—literally and figuratively—that will bless our community for generations. 🌿💗💚

Reflections of Excellence & Sisterhood 🌸

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Omicron Alpha Omega Chapter, was honored to celebrate 118 years of sisterhood and service in exquisite style during our Founders’ Day program!

This year’s theme, “Reflections of Black Excellence in Art,” was beautifully brought to life through a dynamic and uplifting celebration. Our program began with a powerful meditation and prayer led by Bishop Teresa E. Snorton, the 59th Bishop and the first female Bishop in the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, and a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated—setting a reverent and inspiring tone for the entire occasion.

We were especially inspired by the powerful message delivered by our sister, Carrie J. Clark, 29th Great Lakes Regional Director and International Regional Director. Her words on the importance of the arts within our community reminded us of the vital role creativity, culture, and expression play in uplifting and strengthening our communities.

We were also proud to honor two outstanding individuals for their excellence and impact:
✨ Mrs. Gloria Gipson Suggs – Ethel Hedgemon Lyle Venturous Award
✨ Mr. Dale “Keiffer” DeBerry – Lucy Diggs Slowe Artistic Award

This celebration was a true reflection of purpose, legacy, and excellence. Thank you to everyone who joined us as we honored our beloved Founders and celebrated the richness of Black artistry and service.

Together, we continue to uplift, inspire, and serve. đź’—đź’š

Sisterly Love in Action! 🌸

Last evening, our Sisterly Relations activity was nothing short of amazing! 💕💚 In conjunction with our Founders’ Day Celebration, we gathered for a dynamic evening filled with painting, laughter, great food, and even greater fellowship.

The room was filled with joy, creativity, and the true spirit of sisterhood as we connected, uplifted one another, and created beautiful memories together. Moments like these remind us just how special our bond is and how powerful it is when we come together in love and unity.

Thank you to our Sisterly Relations Committee for planning such a fun and transformative experience!
