Did You Know? The Center for Korean Studies is the oldest and largest Korean studies institution outside Korea.

📍Established in 1972, the Center for Korean Studies coordinates and develops resources for the study of Korea at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. The Center seeks to promote interdisciplinary and intercultural approaches to Korean studies. Our faculty members specializes in all disciplines such as anthropology, Asian studies, business, communication, dance, economics, history, journalism, language, law, linguistics, literature, music, political science, social work, and sociology are regularly offered.

With the largest concentration of Korean specialists and resources in any University outside of Korea, the Center strives to be the premier institution for the study of Korea in the United States

Around Mānoa: Hawai’i Institute of Marine Biology (HIMB) also known as Coconut Island or Moku o Loʻe 🏝️

Did You Know? HIMB is the only research facility in the world built on a coral reef.

📍The Hawaiʻi Institute of Marine Biology is a world leader in multi-disciplinary research and eduction in all aspects of marine biology. Located in Kāneʻohe Bay, the research facility is approximately 29 acres, including 6 acres of enclosed lagoons designated for research. The surrounding 64 acres of coral reef is designated by the state of Hawai‘i as the Hawai‘i Marine Laboratory Refuge.

📍Lyon Arboretum is a University of Hawai’i Research Unit and a public botanical garden located at the back of Mānoa Valley in Honolulu, Hawaii. Around Mānoa: “The Fourth Sign”

The Fourth Sign is a public artwork by the American artist Tony Smith situated on the lawn outside the Art Building at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The large sculpture is fabricated in steel, painted black, and signifies the fourth Zodiac sign, which is Cancer (a crab). The sculpture was commissioned by the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts in accordance with the Art in State Buildings Law.

Since its installation, many have seen in its shape as a reference to the legs and claws of a crab
