Graduate Division (previously, Office of Graduate Education) provides opportunities for further study, research and professional training to students who have earned a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher learning. All of the graduate programs at University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa apply rigorous academic standards. The Blakemore Foundation generously funds competitive fellowships for students to pursue advanced level language study in East or Southeast Asia. Fellowships apply to specified languages and approved programs for the current competition. There is also a language fellowship for those pursuing an academic career in Chinese or Korean Art History. 2027-2028 applications are now open and due by December 30th.

Planning to do research in Japan? Please join us in person for an on campus visit and info session with the Japan Society for Promotion of Science (JSPS) San Francisco Office. Open to all disciplines, JSPS is the largest funding agency for academic research in Japan. They provide fellowships for graduate students, postdoctorates, faculty, and researchers in all fields of research, including but not limited to social science, humanities, as well as science.

The American-Scandinavian Foundation (ASF) is accepting applications for Fellowships for Americans in the Nordic Countries in the 2027-28 academic year.

ASF offers both long-term (4-12 months) fellowships of up to $23,000 and short-term (1-3 months) fellowships of up to $5,000 to graduate students (preferably dissertation-related) and academic professionals interested in pursuing research or creative arts projects in the Nordic region (Denmark, Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Finland, Norway, Sweden, and Sápmi). Awards are granted in all fields.

Deadline: November 1, 2026

Open to prospective and current UH Mānoa graduate students interested in learning about the East-West Center (EWC) scholarships, fellowships and education programs.

EWC provides funding for graduate students from over 40 countries, Hawai‘i, and across the U.S. to pursue graduate degrees at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. EWC Programs are designed to foster a shared sense of community and develop the leadership skills and Asia Pacific regional literacy needed for cooperation and community building among nations. Students live in residence at the Center, adjacent to the UH Mānoa campus.
